American tennis star Alex Michelsen is ready to perform better in 2025. Playing 60 matches on the tour in 2024, the young American reached his career-best ranking of 41 in November. The 20-year-old reached the final of two ATP 250 tournaments this year, Newport and Winston-Salem, but lost on several occasions. Michelson also reached the semifinals of the ATP Next Gen finals, eventually losing to Learner Tien.

Despite being the lowest-ranked player in the tournament, Joao Fonseca won the ATP Next Gen finals by defeating Learner Tien in the final. With the win, he became the second youngest player in history to win the ATP Next Gen finals. Jannik Sinner was the youngest player to do so when he won the title in 2019.

After winning the title he said, “I played a final against Learner in juniors at the 2023 US Open, and I know how he can play. He’s a great guy and a great player, so I knew it was going to be difficult, mentally and physically. But I got through.”
