Top five youngest men's singles champions at Cincinnati Open

Andy Roddick is the youngest to win the Cincinnati Open.

The Cincinnati Open has been a stage where seasoned veterans demonstrate that experience, strategy, and determination can match youthful energy.

The youngest champions at this Masters 1000 event have proved themselves. They proved that early success in tennis often comes from raw talent, fearlessness, and the ability to perform in big matches.

Youngest men’s singles champions at Cincinnati Open-

5. Michael Chang – 22 years, 5 months, and 17 days

Michael Chang became the first player to defend the Cincinnati Masters title after winning it for the first time in 1993. In 1994, seeded fourth, Chang showcased his incredible baseline consistency and speed, beating top players including 13th seed Cédric Pioline, Jason Stoltenberg, and David Wheaton on his way to the final.

There, he defeated No. 2 seed Stefan Edberg in a thrilling three-setter, 6–2, 7–5, to clinch his second Cincinnati title. Despite his success, these remained his only two titles at the event, as he reached the finals in 1995 and 1996 but was denied by Andre Agassi both times.

4. Michael Chang – 21 years, 5 months, and 18 days

Chang’s maiden Cincinnati triumph was nothing short of incredible, as he defeated the formidable duo of Andre Agassi and Stefan Edberg to claim his fourth career Masters title.

The American quickly established himself as a rising hard-court threat, winning a total of 22 titles on the surface during his career. However, he never managed to win either the Australian or the US Open, finishing runner-up in both.

3. Andy Murray – 21 years, 2 months, and 19 days

Andy Murray’s breakthrough Cincinnati Masters victory came in 2008 at just 21 years old. Seeded eighth, Murray was placed in the top half of the draw, which saw numerous upsets, including the early exits of World No. 1 Roger Federer and fourth-ranked Nikolay Davydenko.

The Brit cruised past 16th seed Ivo Karlović to reach his maiden Cincinnati final, before edging World No. 3 Novak Djokovic in consecutive tiebreakers. Between 2007 and 2012, Murray lifted the trophy twice in an era otherwise dominated by Federer.

2. Pete Sampras – 21 years, 0 months, and 5 days

Pete Sampras captured the Cincinnati title in 1992 at just 21 years and 5 days old. Seeded third, he faced eighth seed Ivan Lendl in the final, winning a hard-fought three-set battle 6–3, 3–6, 6–3.

Along the way, Sampras defeated other top players, including Petr Korda in the quarter-finals and Stefan Edberg in straight sets, showcasing his aggressive serve-and-volley style and mental toughness.

This was redemption for the American, who had lost a tense final to Guy Forget in 1991. Sampras went on to win two more Cincinnati titles.

1. Andy Roddick – 20 years, 11 months, and 18 days

Andy Roddick’s 2003 Cincinnati triumph came just before his 21st birthday. Seeded seventh, Roddick did not face any seeded opponents en route to the title, defeating James Blake, Mariano Zabaleta, and Max Mirnyi, as several top contenders, including Roger Federer, fell early.

After a flawless campaign until the final, Roddick dropped his first set of the tournament but staged a tremendous comeback to beat Mardy Fish 4–6, 7–6, 7–6 in a nail-biting encounter. The American lost the 2005 final but triumphed again in 2006, ending his career with two Cincinnati titles.
