Yuki Bhambri was India’s best performer with round of 16 appearances in both men’s and mixed doubles.

Yuki Bhambri’s best-ever outing at Wimbledon came to a heartbreaking end in the third round against fourth seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. His defeat also ended India’s challenge at the ongoing Wimbledon 2025, with all four pairs now crashing out.

Alongside Robert Galloway, the 16th seeds overcame two tight first rounds, in straight sets, but dropped their opening set in round three.

The Indian-American pairing did well to bounce back in the second set, but once again found themselves trailing in third. Galloway produced some stunning shots to break back and force a deciding 10-point tiebreak, a fitting end to a match where there was not much to seperate between both the teams.

Unlike the remainder of the match, the tie-breaker was one-sided domination by the American-Argentine pairing, as they were 7-0 ahead at one point, winning ultimately 10-4. Bhambri can be proud of his efforts, but would be gutted with the defeat, given how close they were.

Yuki Bhambri carried India’s hopes in the mixed doubles event as well, but his poor serving cost him and China’s Jiang Xinyu in the round of 16. The Chinese did well to hold her serve and they missed the opening set narrowly, but consecutive breaks on Bhambri’s serve in the second set did not help the Indo-Chinese pair.

Meanwhile, Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli, made his main draw Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon 2025, and staged a superb turnaround from a set down, alongside Nicolás Barrientos. However, they were always going to be tested against the sixth seeds, and all-British duo of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.

The second set witnessed a solid effort from the Indo-Cambodian pair, but the experience of the British men saw them through to the next round. N Sriram Balaji’s campaign was similar to Bollipalli, as he too began on a positive note against Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic, but was blown away by the fourth seeds, who cruised to a straight-sets victory.

While these three men managed to secure at least one win, Rohan Bopanna—India’s most experienced campaigner and the country’s doubles flagbearer for several years—suffered a gut-wrenching first-round exit.

The 45-year-old, partnering Sander Gillé for only the third time this season, entered the tournament unseeded and faced a formidable challenge against the third seeds and newly crowned Halle Open champions.

The Indo-Belgian duo struggled to make an impact and fell short of providing any real resistance, as Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz prevailed comfortably in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Every major event brings both highs and lows. For India, Yuki Bhambri’s impressive rise stood out as the biggest highlight, while N. Sriram Balaji’s debut offered promise and a glimpse into the future.

However, serious question marks now surround the 44-year-old Rohan Bopanna, who has had a below-par 2025 season and appears to be nearing the end of his illustrious tennis career.
