Some casino games require skills and tactics, and others are based on sheer luck. We all know that. But what a lot of players don’t know is that some of the games based on luck do require tactics, just not in the same way that games like poker or blackjack do.

One of these games is roulette, which many people would assume is a game of chance. Believe it or not, there are strategies and tactics you can apply to roulette that can increase your chances of winning, but you just have to dive a little deeper under the surface to find them.

With this in mind, we wanted to walk you through some of the most successful roulette tactics players can apply to their game, helping to increase the chances of success the next time you spin the wheel.

The Martingale System

The Martingale strategy is probably one of the most well-used betting systems in gambling. It operates on the premise that a player will eventually win a bet, which means you can recover your previous losses plus a profit equal to your original bet.

Essentially, you would start with a base bet – let’s say $2 on red – and if you win, you place the same bet on the next round. If you lose that next round, you double your bet – so it would be $4 on red – and continue the process until you win and you can revert to your original base. The good thing about this tactic is that it’s simple and easy to implement, but the only problem is that it requires a larger bankroll to withstand a long losing streak.

The Fibonacci System

Based on the ‘Fibonacci sequence’, this strategy involves betting the sum of two previous bets after a loss. To give an example, if you lose two bets of 1 unit, your next bet would be two units, and so on and so forth.

When you eventually win, you then move two steps back in the sequence, helping you to be a little more conservative than you would be under the Martingale system. Of course, it also means that you will be slower at progressing, and it still requires a reasonably sized bankroll, but it’s a good strategy to try out if you want to manage your bankroll more effectively.

The Bond System

When we think about roulette and poker, a lot of us think of the James Bond movies – especially movies like Casino Royale or Doctor No, where gambling plays a big role. As a result of this, there are some players who go as far as to implement what is known as ‘the James Bond system’, which is a strategy designed to cover a significant portion of the roulette wheel in a single spin.

To implement it, you would need to place a total bet of 200 units – 140 units on numbers 19-36, 50 units on numbers 13-18, and 10 units on 0 – which essentially covers 25 out of 37 numbers on a European wheel and 25 out of 38 on an American wheel. Once again, this will require quite a substantial bankroll, but high coverage increases the likelihood of winning on any given spin and can yield decent payouts if you’re successful.

Conclusion

It’s important to remember that with all of these strategies, however, the house edge remains the same, and no strategy can actually change that. These are just tactics to increase your focus, build on your strengths, and put yourself in the best position possible to avoid losing out, so make sure that you use them wisely and always limit how much of your bankroll you’re going to spend.
