The Indian wrestler has impressed in his last few fights
The semifinals for Road To UFC Season 3, featuring top talents from flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, and women’s strawweight divisions, will take center stage at the UFC APEX Arena in Las Vegas on August 24. Among the promising competitors is India’s rising star, Angad Bisht.
At 28 years old, hailing from the scenic Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, Bisht has built a record of 10 wins and 3 losses, solidifying his place as one of India’s brightest MMA prospects. However, his journey to the cage was anything but conventional.
In an exclusive conversation with Khel Now, Bisht shared insights into his path to MMA, his upcoming bout, and the challenges he’s faced.
Angad Bisht speaks on his game plan for Road to UFC semi-finals
When asked about his game plan for the semifinals, where he will face the undefeated Dong Hun Choi at Road to UFC, Angad Bisht kept it simple. “My game plan would be what I do every day. Just go out there, do my things. It’s nothing different—just go up there, and finish the fight as soon as possible. That’s all I have thought for now,” he said. It’s clear that Bisht is sticking to his strengths and is determined to keep his momentum going.
As for predictions, Bisht expressed confidence in his ground game but acknowledged the unpredictability of the sport. “I think I can finish the fight with a submission. But it’s a fight—we can’t say anything until the fight’s over. If he goes for striking, I would do the same. If the fight is for the ground game, then accordingly I’ll go for ground & pound,” Bisht explained. His focus on adapting to his opponent’s style shows the strategic thinking that has gotten him this far.
Angad Bisht believes his biggest challenge is to ‘win’ his next fight
When asked about the biggest challenge in his life, Bisht’s response was as pragmatic as his fighting style. “The biggest challenge is to win the next fight,” he stated plainly. For Bisht, it seems that the future only matters one fight at a time.
Bisht’s journey into MMA wasn’t a direct one. Initially, he had set out to become a medical doctor. “I started my journey to become a medical doctor. Then I thought that this is not my life, I want to do something else,” he recalled. His move to Delhi and a part-time job in a gym eventually led him to discover MMA. “I made some good body. And then I learned MMA part-time… It was really fun. And when I won, I had my hands up, and four people clapped for me. And that was different. I thought, this is it. And then I thought that I will make my career in MMA.”
