The event will mark the promotion’s third visit to the city and its first since UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Rozenstruik in December 2019. Additionally, the historic event is expected to host roughly 5,000 guests invited by UFC and the WHite House.
Last week, UFC shared renders showing what the stage and event setup will look like, building excitement and hyping fans for the upcoming show. Now, videos and photos circulating on social media have confirmed that the construction for the event has begun on White House South Lawn.
The Lightweight unification bout will headline UFC Freedom 250
Per the videos and photos on social media, construction has begun at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with less than three weeks. In the images circulating, cranes were actively building a temporary arena, and workers were seen on Monday assembling what appeared to be a lighting structure.
The renderings last week revealed the planned setup, including “the claw,” a large lighting and canopy structure built in Europe and shipped to the United States specifically for the event, per USA Today.
Additionally, UFC President Dana White has also stated that his vision is to ensure the White House remains visible as the backdrop for every fight.
The event marks the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence and also coincides with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
Illia Topuria will take on the Interim Champion Justin Gaethje in a unification bout in the main event, while Cirly Gane and former Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira will battle for the Interim Heavyweight title.
The rest of the undercard features big names like Michael Chandler, Sean O’Malley, Bo Nickal, and Diego Lopes, among others.
