Karolina Kowalkiewicz, the Polish MMA star with a fierce and determined spirit, is preparing to face Denise Gomes at UFC Fight Night 247 on November 9, 2024. In an exclusive interview with KhelNow, Kowalkiewicz shared her excitement, her personal journey with mixed martial arts, and her thoughts on her next opponent.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz’s journey began when she was just sixteen. Struggling with serious depression as a teenager, she found an outlet in martial arts that changed her life.
Starting with Krav Maga and later training in Muay Thai, Kowalkiewicz quickly realized her passion and skill. “MMA saved my life,” she shared. “When I started training martial arts, everything changed, you know, and I started to enjoy life.”
After turning professional in 2012, she amassed an undefeated record of seven wins, becoming a flyweight champion in Poland’s KSW promotion and making her U.S. debut for Invicta FC in 2014. Her determination and skill brought her to the UFC, where she’s fought some of the toughest competitors in the sport.
“Another Challenge for Me”: Kowalkiewicz on Her Upcoming Fight with Denise Gomes
Kowalkiewicz is known for her resilience. she is eager to step into the Octagon against the young, powerful Brazilian striker Denise Gomes.“I am very excited, I cannot wait. I fight for the UFC so long and still, I love it,” she said, with clear enthusiasm. She added, “This fight is another challenge for me.”
As for her game plan, Karolina Kowalkiewicz kept it simple and focused, she said, “My game plan is don’t get hurt and win the fight.”
She acknowledged Gomes’ power, particularly her strong knockout punch, but is ready to face it head-on. “She’s young, talented, she has a very strong punch,” she admitted. “But this is my favorite type of opponent… young Brazilian girl. I always lose with Brazilian girls, so I hope this time I will win this fight.”
