Max Holloway kicked off his UFC career in 2012.

Max “Blessed” Holloway is one of the most recognisable names in mixed martial arts. Born on December 4, 1991, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the native of Wai’anae turned a passion for kickboxing into a full UFC career that has spanned more than a decade, and he’s still very much in the mix at the top level.

Holloway made his UFC debut on February 4, 2012, at UFC 143 as an injury replacement. He was just 20 years old. He lost that night to Dustin Poirier by submission, but that was far from the end of the story.

The journey to become the UFC Featherweight Champion

Over the next few years, he quietly built a winning streak in the featherweight division that became one of the longest in UFC history: 13 fights without a loss.

On June 3, 2017, Holloway captured the undisputed UFC featherweight title by stopping Jose Aldo in the third round at UFC 212.

He went on to defend the belt successfully multiple times, including a dominant TKO win over Brian Ortega and a second finish of Aldo. His reign came to an end in December 2019, when Alexander Volkanovski won by unanimous decision, the first of three losses in their trilogy.

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping moment of his career came at UFC 300 in April 2024. Facing Justin Gaethje in a lightweight BMF title fight, Holloway was hurt and behind on the cards heading into the final seconds of the fifth round.

Then, with literally one second left on the clock, he landed a right hand that sent Gaethje crashing to the canvas. The knockout was immediately hailed as one of the greatest in the sport’s history.

Since then, Holloway has fought at both featherweight and lightweight. He lost the BMF belt to Charles Oliveira by unanimous decision in March 2026 at UFC 326, dropping his record to 27-9.

As of May 2026, he is confirmed to face Conor McGregor in a rematch at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026, in Las Vegas, a fight that is already generating enormous attention.

Max Holloway made his UFC debut against Dustin Poirier in 2012, where he suffered his first MMA loss, starting his UFC career. He entered UFC with a 4-0 record.

Statistically, Holloway is in a league of his own when it comes to volume striking. He holds the UFC records for most significant strikes landed (3,655) and most total strikes (3,907), and no other fighter is within 1,000 of either mark. His nickname, “Blessed,” was given to him by his coach early in his career and has stuck ever since.
