Raja Jackson caused a buzz on social media Saturday night.
Raja Jackson, son of former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, was seen violently attacking a pro wrestler at an independent show in California on Saturday. The disturbing scene was captured live on the streaming platform Kick.
Independent wrestler Stuart Smith, also known as Syko Stu, can be seen in the ring during a match at a Knokx Pro Wrestling event, when Raja stormed the ring, lifted the independent wrestler over his head, and slammed him hard onto the mat. He then mounted the seemingly unconscious Smith and delivered over 20 unanswered punches to his head before a group of wrestlers pulled him off.
Amid speculation of this being a work and backlash from fans blasting Raja, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported the segment between the two and the slam was scripted, but the barrage of what appeared to be real punches and the injuries Smith sustained were unforeseen. He also added that Smith was “rushed to the hospital with serious injuries” after the incident.
The incident seemingly stemmed from a confrontation earlier, where Smith smashed a beer bottle on Raja’s head, and the situation started to heat up before bystanders intervened and separated the two.
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson responds to the incident
Amid widespread social media outrage and rumors claiming the wrestler was gravely injured or even dead, the former MMA legend has addressed the incident. Quinton took to his X handle, responding to the incident also provided an update on Stu’s situation.
“I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja. I’ve been confirmed that the wrestler ( Stewart Smith aka Syko Stu) is awake and stable. Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match, Raja was told that he could get his “payback”in the ring,i thought it was apart of the show.
It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong. Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact.
As a father, im deeply concerned with his health AND the well being of Mr. Smith. That being said I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery.I apologize on his behalf and to KICK for the situation.“
The rumors about the wrestler’s death seem to have originated from a stream involving Raja Jackson, where he was heard on a call with an “Andre” who told him the wrestler “flat-lined” in the ring.
