Alex Pereira (C) vs Jiri Prochazka
The UFC has scheduled a rematch between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka, whom he defeated to earn the crown. Prochazka won the championship at UFC 275 after an incredible battle against Pereira’s buddy and MMA mentor Glover Teixeira, but was forced to abandon it due to injuries before ever defending it once.
Prochazka’s return fight was against Pereira for the vacant championship, which Pereira won via TKO in the second round. Pereira is not just the current light heavyweight champion, but also a previous middleweight champion, and he has accomplished all of this in just 12 professional MMA matches.
Brian Ortega vs Diego Lopes
Enjoy Brian Ortega’s battle against Diego Lopes at UFC 303, since it might be the last time we see “T-City” compete at featherweight for a while. Ortega is the latest athlete to step up and assist the UFC preserve a struggling event, after Conor McGregor’s two-week notice withdrawal from the June 29th show. He’ll battle hotshot finisher Diego Lopes in the show’s new co-main event.
The fight was a welcome opportunity for the No. 3 featherweight contender, who has struggled to find a fight — and a purpose — at 145 pounds. Because of this, he intends to go up to 155 pounds for a bit after the Lopes bout, regardless of the outcome in Las Vegas.
Anthony Smith vs Roman Dolidze
Anthony Smith will fight at UFC 303, after all. The UFC announced Friday that Smith will now battle middleweight contender Roman Dolidze in next Saturday’s pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Dolidze steps in — and up a weight class — on eight days’ notice to replace Carlos Ulberg, who was scratched off the card for unclear reasons.
After a fantastic 2022 campaign in which he went 3-0 with three stoppage victories, Dolidze has had a difficult run. Dolidze lost a decision to Marvin Vettori at UFC 286 in his only bout in 2023. The 35-year-old then competed in February, losing by decision to Nassourdine Imavov in the main event at UFC Vegas 85.
Meanwhile, Smith hopes to continue the momentum from his May UFC 301 first-round submission win over Vitor Petrino into the June 29 International Fight Week program.
Mayra Bueno Silva vs Macy Chiasson
Bueno Silva (10-3-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) will compete for the first time since losing to Raquel Pennington in January for the vacant women’s bantamweight title. Prior to the loss, the Brazilian was on a three-fight winning streak, including a no-contest against Holly Holm, which was initially a victory.
Chiasson (10-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) fought last month and submitted Pannie Kianzad in the first round, earning a $50,000 Performance of the Night award. Chiasson’s victory helped her to recover from a knockout defeat to Irene Aldana in 2022.
Ian Garry vs Michael Page
Following his debut victory over Kevin Holland, British sensation Michael ‘Venom’ Page returns to action at UFC 303 next weekend, against the ever-entertaining but ever-divisive Ian Machado Garry. Heated internet conversations have become routine between the two, with Page speaking to David Adesanya (Israel’s brother) about the trash-talking that has occurred in the lead-up to UFC 303.
