Ilia Topuria (C) vs Max Holloway

Ilia Topuria defends his featherweight belt for the first time against former champion Max Holloway in one of the year’s most anticipated fights.

Topuria took the crown in February, defeating titleholder Alexander Volkanovski in a stunning second-round knockout that left the Australian sprawled against the fence. Topuira’s win improved his UFC record to 7-0 and 15-0 overall, earning him the first Georgian and Spanish champion in UFC history.

Holloway’s route to potentially winning the featherweight title appeared closed as long as Volkanovski dominated the category, but when Topuira grabbed the crown, the pathway opened up. “Blessed” then went out at UFC 300 and won the BMF championship from Justin Gaethje, capping off a strong performance by knocking out “The Highlight” in the center of the Octagon just before the buzzer.

Robert Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev

Originally slated for June, Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev will finally share the Octagon this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Whittaker remains a constant danger in the middleweight class, having lost only to current champion Dricus Du Plessis and previous two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya. He followed up his unanimous decision victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 298 in February with a first-round knockout of Ikram Aliskerov in June, cementing his status as a top contender.

Chimaev, who began his career with an unprecedented three-month stretch, has evolved into a skilled enigma in recent years. “Borz” has only fought four times in the previous four years due to health concerns, but he remains unbeaten, defeating former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman on short notice in Abu Dhabi in October.

Lerone Murphy vs Dan Ige

Lerone Murphy faces UFC 303 star Dan Ige on the main card, looking to keep his unbeaten streak alive. Murphy, 33, comes with a 6-0-1 record inside the Octagon and an overall record of 14-0-1. His first four UFC fights were in Abu Dhabi, and in May, he defeated Edson Barboza in five rounds for his biggest win to date.

Ige, a consummate professional and rankings fixture, had a breakout moment in June, getting into a fight with Diego Lopes on four hours’ notice and pushing the Brazilian every step of the way despite finishing on the wrong side of 29-28 scores across the board. The Xtreme Couture representative defeated Andre Fili in the opening round earlier this year and is eager to advance further in the division.

Magomed Ankalaev vs Aleksandar Rakic

Light heavyweight contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Aleksandar Rakic face off in a crucial encounter only a few weeks after Alex Pereira successfully defended his belt for the third time this year.

Ankalaev began the year with a second-round knockout victory against Johnny Walker in the first main event of 2024, ending their feud after their fight at UFC 294 last October resulted in a no-contest due to an illegal knee. The 32-year-old star has gone unbeaten in his previous 12 fights and enters the Octagon with one of the division’s most comprehensive skill sets.

After sustaining a major knee injury in his May 2022 fight with former champ Jan Blachowicz, Rakic returned to action in April, but lost to another ex-titleholder, Jiri Prochazka, at UFC 303. Prior to his current two-fight slump, the Austrian star was 6-1 in the UFC, with his only loss coming in a contentious split decision to Volkan Oezdemir at the end of 2019.

Shara Magomedov vs Armen Petrosyan

The main event begins in the middleweight class, where promising striker Shara Magomedov squares up against Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) graduate Armen Petrosyan.

“Shara Bullet” made his professional debut on last year’s October pay-per-view in Abu Dhabi, defeating Bruno Silva via unanimous decision. Since then, the 30-year-old has defeated Antonio Trocoli in the third round and won by unanimous decision against Michal Oleksiejczuk to improve his total record to 14-0.

Petrosyan, a member of the DWCS Class of ’21, is 3-2 in his first five UFC outings. He was submitted by former BJJ world champion Rodolfo Vieira the last time out, but he shouldn’t have to worry about takedowns or submission attempts this time around.
