Some big matches on the match card
The next UFC men’s bantamweight championship challenger might be selected on Saturday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Cory Sandhagen ranked second in the UFC, will battle unbeaten Umar Nurmagomedov in the main event on ABC. The latter is the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the former UFC lightweight champion and all-time great.
The pivotal 135-pound bout will cap off one of the strongest Fight Night events of the year. Here’s an overview of the event’s viewing information.

Cory Sandhagen vs Umar Nurmagomedov
I am delighted to say that UFC was able to reschedule this fight after it was originally set for Nashville last year, and the winner will most likely contend for the bantamweight championship when Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishili face off at Noche UFC. Nurmagomedov appears to have all of the talents required to be a champion in this category, and he is likely capable of winning this fight, but Sandhagen is a major step up from the opponents he has faced thus far.
Shara Magomedov vs Michał Oleksiejczuk
Certainly a more intriguing battle than the planned co-main event between Nick Diaz and Vicente Luque, this is nonetheless a difficult booking for Oleksiejczuk after being defeated in back-to-back fights. Magomedov’s kicking may help him to hold the fight at his chosen distance, but “Hussar” will be constantly walking forward to land his strikes and will most likely avoid submission in this battle.
Marlon Vera vs Deiveson Figueiredo
This battle could easily have been the main event for its own UFC Battle night, however, Vera may need to remind some fans that he’s still a top bantamweight after his disappointing championship bid against Sean O’Malley at UFC 299. Figueiredo has looked solid since coming up from flyweight, but he will have a difficult time closing the distance against a larger opponent with a strong kicking game.
Tony Ferguson vs Michael Chiesa
Ferguson faced Nate Diaz in an unscheduled welterweight showdown in the main event of UFC 279, but this is the first time he’s been scheduled for a bout at 170 pounds since winning The Ultimate Fighter in 2011. I’d want to see that transformation ignite something in “El Cucuy” that helps him finally halt his long losing run, but despite his three-fight skid, I have to favor Chiesa here.
Mackenzie Dern vs Loopy Godinez
This is a vital battle for the strawweight category, and Dern’s title hopes might be jeopardized if she loses her third fight in a row. The outcome of this game is mostly determined by Dern’s ability to get things going, and while I could easily see a close split decision, I’ll go with her to win again.
Joel Álvarez vs Elves Brenner
Easily one of the better matches on the program, both men will be trying to gain momentum after Brener suffered his first UFC defeat at UFC 301 and Alvarez returned from a lengthy layoff to submit Marc Diakiese in his most recent fight. It would be surprising if this bout went the distance, and Alvarez’s height advantage might be the determining factor in helping the Spaniard secure another victory.
UFC 304: Date, Time and Venue
