Marvin Vettori vs Roman Dolidze 2

Two years after their first fight, Marvin Vettori and Roman Dolidze will rekindle their rivalry in the main event of Saturday’s UFC APEX show. Vettori returns for the first time since June 2023, when he lost a unanimous decision to Top 10 regular Jared Cannonier. “The Italian Dream” has a 9-5-1 record inside the Octagon heading into his sixth main event appearance in the UFC.

Dolidze made three appearances last year, beginning his 2024 campaign with a majority decision defeat to Nassourdine Imavov, before outhustling Anthony Smith in a light heavyweight showdown at UFC 303 and winning by knockout over Kevin Holland at UFC 307 in early October. The Georgian is 14-3 overall and 6-2 in his previous eight bouts, with Vettori accounting for the first of his two losses during that span.

Their first fight, at UFC 286 in London, was a close encounter that Vettori won by unanimous decision, earning all three rounds in the eyes of one judge, while the other two awarded Dolidze the first and his opponent the second and third. But it appears like each player is in a very different situation this time around, particularly with Vettori having switched his training to the American Top Team, so it will be fascinating to watch how things play out when they return here.

Chidi Njokuani vs Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos

This weekend, talented experienced welterweights Chidi Njokuani and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos will face off in what promises to be an intriguing duel of strong attackers.

Last year was a rebound year for Njokuani, who stepped down to the 170-pound division and ended a three-fight losing streak by defeating Rhys McKee and Jared Gooden via decision. While he has yet to demonstrate the finishing ability that gained him his UFC contract and victories over Marc-Andre Barriault and Dusko Todorovic to start his career in the Octagon, “Bang” continues to bring the heat anytime he enters the cage.

The 38-year-old dos Santos had two appearances in 2024, losing a unanimous decision to Randy Brown at UFC 302 before recovering with a first-round knockout victory over short-notice substitute Zach Scroggin in early November to improve to 25-8-1 overall. Dos Santos, one of the division’s lesser-known fighters, has been a welterweight stalwart for over a decade and can always be depended on to deliver the goods.

SeungWoo Choi vs Kevin Vallejos

In this fascinating featherweight bout, South Korean veteran SeungWoo Choi will face recent Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) graduate Kevin Vallejos for the first fight in the Octagon.

Choi arrives in Las Vegas hoping to return to winning ways and reclaim the form that earned him victories over Youssef Zalal and Julian Erosa earlier in his professional career. Never one to back away from a fight, “Sting” will look to draw on his experience both inside and beyond the Octagon when he faces the intriguing newcomer this weekend.

Vallejos had to go through two rounds of the yearly talent hunt series to secure a spot on the UFC roster, losing to Jean Silva in Season 7 before finishing first and signing a deal last season. While numerous members of the Class of ’24 have already made an impression, it would not be shocking if Vallejos emerges as one of the greatest of this outstanding bunch in the near future.

This is an amazing battle that should immediately define Vallejos’ developmental status and position in the division. He appears to have the potential to hit the ground running, as Silva has done thus far, but Choi is the type of tough, prideful veteran who will not go away lightly.

Alexander Hernandez vs Kurt Holobaugh

Alexander Hernandez and Kurt Holobaugh will face off as seasoned lightweights. Hernandez, 32, comes off a hard-fought win over Austin Hubbard at UFC 307. He’s gone 5-7 in 12 appearances since starting his UFC career with consecutive wins over Beneil Dariush and Olivier Aubin-Mercier, occasionally dabbling in the featherweight division, but looks to be at his best when battling in the 155-pound weight class, as he does now.

Holobaugh won the TUF 31 lightweight tournament with a second-round submission finish against Hubbard in the summer of 2023, before making two appearances last year in his first full year back on the team. The bayou-based 38-year-old won his first post-TUF UFC fight in July, defeating Kaynan Kruschewsky, and will aim to build on that momentum in this one.

Da’Mon Blackshear vs Cody Gibson

Veteran grapplers Da’Mon Blackshear and Cody Gibson square battle in the second of two straight bantamweight bouts to kick off the main show. Blackshear is just 3-3-1 inside the Octagon, but his strength of schedule is one of the strongest in the 135-pound division. Last time out, “The Monster” ended a two-fight losing streak by submitting divisional stalwart Cody Stamann in the first round, improving his total record to 15-7-1.

After falling short in his TUF 31 bantamweight finale fights against Brad Katona and Miles Johns, Gibson recovered with two strong wins in the second part of the year. In July, he dominated and submitted Brian Kelleher before heading north of the border to defeat Chad Anheliger again.

In a perfect world, this would be a scramble-filled encounter between two skilled grapplers who perform their best on the canvas. Even if that’s not the case, it should be a competitive fight between two seasoned fighters aiming to advance in the talent-rich bantamweight division.

SuYoung You vs AJ Cunningham

On the road to becoming a UFC winner SuYoung You will make his next appearance against DWCS alum AJ Cunningham in this bantamweight main event opener. You finished his 2024 campaign with three victories, defeating Shohei Nose, Daermisi Zhawupasi, and Baergeng Jieleyisi. The 29-year-old has been quite active over the previous three years, making ten appearances and going 7-1 with two no-contests.

Cunningham, 30, participated in Season 7 of Dana White’s Contender Series, losing a back-and-forth fight with Steven Nguyen before returning to the regional circuit and winning a first-round knockout to get things rolling in the right way. He suffered a one-sided defeat against rising lightweight Ludovit Klein during his short-notice call-up last March and will attempt to right the ship again this weekend.
