The first professional sporting event ever held at the White House took place on June 14, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The card featured seven total fights, with two title bouts in the main and co-main events.
A unification bout between Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria and interim titleholder Justin Gaethje headlined the event. It was a rare collision of two genuine finishers, with Topuria making the first defense of his lightweight belt after knocking out Charles Oliveira last June.
Gathje managed to outlast Topuria and his power, delivering brutal and damaging shots as Ilia’s corner stopped the fight at the end of round four for Justin to secure the massive upset win and finally become the Undispited Lightweight Champion.
The co-main event saw former two-division champion Alex Pereira step up to heavyweight to face Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. A win would have made Pereira the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts across three weight classes, a historic milestone that has driven enormous interest in the bout.
Pereira was aiming to capture gold in three different divisions, after successful Championship reigns at Middleweight and Light Heavyweight, while Gane was looking to bounce back after the controversial no-contest caused by an accidental eye poke by Gane against reigning Champion Aspinall at UFC 321. Gane managed to defeat Pereira via TKO to reclaim the Interim title.
Rounding out the card were Sean O’Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi at bantamweight, Josh Hokit vs Derrick Lewis, and Bo Nickal vs Kyle Daukaus, Mauricio Ruffy vs Michael Chandler, and Diego Lopes vs Steve Garcia.
