UFC Flyweight Champion Joshua Van to visit India for MISMA Fight Night in Mizoram on May 30

The Myanmar-born UFC Champion will visit India this week.
The first fighter from Myanmar to win UFC gold, Joshua Van, is coming to the Indian state of Mizoram. Moving to the United States when he was a child due to the conflict in Myanmar, Van is currently in Malaysia, as per his IG post.
Van recently visited his former school in Malaysia and shared a video showing students crowding around him to take photos and meet him. He spent his early childhood as a refugee in Malaysia. The UFC Champion is now set to visit India this week.
Joshua Van will be the first reigning UFC Champion to visit India
The news was announced by Mizoram State Mixed Martial Arts Association (MISMA) that the reigning UFC Flyweight King will be visiting India to attend the Fight Night on May 30. This landmark event is organized by the MISMA and will take place at the R. Dengthuama Indoor Stadium in Mualpil, Aizawl, Mizoram.
Van will attend the event as the special guest, and this appearance will mark the first time a reigning UFC Champion is visiting India. The landmark event will also be attended by the Hon’ble Sports Minister of Mizoram, Shri Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar.
“History is set to be made in Mizoram as the Mizoram State Mixed Martial Arts Association (MISMA) welcomes UFC Flyweight champion Joshua Van with a spectacular Fight Night, sanctioned by MMA India.
Marking the first time a current UFC athlete of this caliber will visit India, the historic event will be graced by the Hon’ble Sports Minister of Mizoram.” The announcement read.
Van recently retained the title over Tatsuro Taira
Regarding his UFC career, Van is currently celebrating his first successful title defense at UFC 328, where he defeated Japanese sensation Tatsuro Taira via technical knockout in the fifth round to retain the title in his first defense.
The first Asian-born male champion in UFC defeated a dominant champion, Alexandre Pantoja, by technical knockout 26 seconds into the first round, when Pantoja sustained an arm injury during a grappling exchange after catching the kick attempted by Van.
