The tournament will take place in Iran from August 19 to 26.

The Asian Volleyball Championship 2023 is scheduled be held in Iran from August 19 to 26, 2023. It will be the 22nd edition of the championship and the upcoming edition is jointly organized by Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF).

India are placed in Pool E alongside Qatar and Afghanistan. There are a total of six pools with three teams each. Top 2 teams from each pool advance to the next round which is followed by the quarter-finals.

India’s history in Asian Volleyball Championships

India’s best result at the Asian Volleyball Championship was a fourth-place finish back in 2005 and in the latest edition the blue colts finished on the ninth spot. Japan are the most successful team having won nine titles. Hosts Iran are the defending champions and will look to retain the trophy in front of their home crowd.

However, the Indian volleyball team will have a point to prove under the supervision of Dronacharya awardee GE Sridharan and finish with a better result at the Asian Volleyball Championship 2023.

This tournament will act a pre-cursor to the Asian Games. The team haven’t played any international match in the last five months. After the conclusion of PVL, the players have not played any quality matches which remains a cause of concern ahead of the tournament.

While most of the big stars from the Prime volleyball league find their places in the team, the likes of Angamuthu and Guru Prasanth have been excluded from the team. Prasanth from Hyderabad Hawks was the top scorer of season 2 scoring 114 points followed by Angamuthu at 111.
