India suffered a fourth straight defeat in the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023after going down 0-3 against Bulgaria in their final match in Pool B. India finished at the bottom of Pool B without even registering a point. The Indian U-19 team lost 16-25, 14-25, 25-17 against Bulgaria in their last match.

Earlier, they had lost to France, Japan and Slovenia as well. Bulgaria, meanwhile, jumped to second in Pool B with the win. They now have eight points from three wins and are four points behind Pool B leaders France, who have won four matches.

After a hat-trick of losses in their opening three matches of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023, India now face Bulgaria in their final Pool B match in the tournament. India are at the bottom of Pool B and are yet to register a point in the tournament. They started the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023 with a 0-3 defeat against France and were then handed a loss by the same margin by Japan in their second game. While India lost 8-25, 8-25, 18-25 against France, they were beaten 12-25, 18-25, 11-25 by Japan.

The Indian U-19 team will now play Bulgaria, who are third in Pool B with two wins and five points. France are atop the table with four wins and 12 points, while Slovenia are second.

The FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023 is scheduled to be held from August 2 to August 11, 2023, in Argentina’s San Juan. This will be the 18th iteration of the prestigious age-group tournament where national teams belonging to the member associations of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) participate.

On December 20, 2022, Argentine Volleyball Federation revealed that the nation will be hosting the 2023 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023. Hence, this is the third occasion in which Argentina will play host to the event, having conducted the tournament back in 2011 and 2015.

Brazil is the most successful nation in the history of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship, winning six titles, and one silver medal. The last edition of the competition (2021) was won by Poland who defeated Bulgaria by 3-0. The host nation Iran finished their campaign on a high with a third position placement, beating Russia in a nail-biting contest by 3-2.

The 2023 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship will mark India’s sixth appearance in the esteemed tournament. India featured in the event for the first time in 2003, where the nation also achieved its best finish as they finished as the runner-up, losing to Brazil by 0-3. This time, India qualified for the World Championship after placing third in the Asian Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2022.
