The Indian U-19 team are at the bottom of Pool B with two defeats from as many matches.

India faced a third straight defeat in the ongoing FIVB Volleyball U-19 World Championship 2023 after going down 0-3 against Slovenia on August 5 (Saturday). The Indian U-19 team lost the match 9-25, 15-25, 21-25 in a little more than an hour.

Once again, India had a poor start to the game and lost the opening set of the match quite easily against Slovenia. In the second set, they showed some fight and held a lead for a long period in the third and final set. But Slovenia, who are second in Pool B, proved to be too strong.

India next face Slovenia in their third match of the ongoing FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023. The Indian U-19 team opened their campaign with a 0-3 defeat against France and were then handed a loss by Japan in their second game. While India lost 8-25, 8-25, 18-25 against France, they were beaten 12-25, 18-25, 11-25 by Japan. The Indian U-19 team will now play Slovenia, who are second in Pool B with one win and four points. France are atop the table with three wins and nine points, while Japan are third.

The FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023 is scheduled to be held from August 2 to August 11, 2023, in Argentina’s San Juan. This will be the 18th iteration of the prestigious age-group tournament where national teams belonging to the member associations of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) participate.

On December 20, 2022, Argentine Volleyball Federation revealed that the nation will be hosting the 2023 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship 2023. Hence, this is the third occasion in which Argentina will play host to the event, having conducted the tournament back in 2011 and 2015.

Brazil is the most successful nation in the history of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship, winning six titles, and one silver medal. The last edition of the competition (2021) was won by Poland who defeated Bulgaria by 3-0. The host nation Iran finished their campaign on a high with a third position placement, beating Russia in a nail-biting contest by 3-2.

The 2023 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U-19 World Championship will mark India’s sixth appearance in the esteemed tournament. India featured in the event for the first time in 2003, where the nation also achieved its best finish as they finished as the runner-up, losing to Brazil by 0-3. This time, India qualified for the World Championship after placing third in the Asian Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2022.
