After the heartbreaking loss against Indonesia in the semis yesterday, the Indian men’s volleyball team will hope to end their campaign on a high when they face Bahrain in the 3rd-4th play-off match later today.
Irrespective of how the match goes, this is set to be India’s best result in the AVC Men’s Cup history.
India, who are hosting the 2026 edition in Amdavad, came close to reaching the final but eventually fell short after going down 2-3 against Indonesia.
Having trailed 1-2 after winning the first set, India did well to force a decider but lost the fifth and deciding set 13-15 to exit the competition.
They will be confident of a better result against Bahrain, who India defeated in straight sets in the Pool phase.
Bahrain, ranked World No. 40, arrives into the 3rd-4th place play-off match after losing their semi-final match in four sets against South Korea. Bahrain lost 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25 and will now play for bronze.
India, on the other hand, started off as favourites in the semi-final. However, the packed crowd at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Amdavad seemed to take its toll, as they made errors under pressure.
This is not to say that they didn’t fight with all their heart. However, small margins in the second and fifth sets eventually cost them the game 25-15 24-26 20-25 25-19 13-15.
