The Indian men’s volleyball team are back in action at the continental level, with participation at the AVC Men’s Volleyball Asian Championship 2026. India will begin its campaign in the biennial tournament against China on September 5 (Saturday).
Back in action for the first time since their podium finish at the AVC Men’s Cup in June, India will hope to carry their good run of performances from that tournament, where they lost just once in five matches, into the continental championships.

Dragan Mihailovic’s side are in Pool B alongside heavyweights China and Iran in the 12-team tournament. New Zealand are the other team in the Pool B. The top two teams from each pool advance to the quarter-finals, while the third-placed team also stands a chance, should they finish within the top eight in the overall tournament rankings.
With the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship 2026 also serving as a qualifier for both the 2028 LA Olympics and the FIBA Volleyball World Cup 2027, India will eye a good campaign.
India’s best overall finish in the tournament came in 2005, when they made the semi-finals, before falling to Japan. Since then, they have reached the last eight stage only once—in 2013.

The Pool B match will be played at the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium in Japan on September 5 (Saturday). It is scheduled to begin at 10 am IST (1:30 pm local time).
