The Indian men’s volleyball team will aim to continue their dominant run in the AVC Men’s Cup 2026 when they face Indonesia in the semi-finals of the tournament on Saturday.
Hosts India won all five of their matches to top Pool A, defeating higher-ranked opponents like Bahrain and Australia en route.
Meanwhile, Indonesia finished second in Pool B, winning three matches, with the only defeat coming against South Korea—who topped the group.
According to Volleyball World website, India and Indonesia have met only once previously in this competition which came in 2023. Indonesia won that meeting in straight sets (31-29, 25-18, 25-12).
The challenge, however, will be different this time around. India are the in-form team coming into the knockouts.
Their winning run of performance in the AVC Men’s Cup 2026 has also resulted in Dragan Mihailovic’s side jumping 22 spots to be ranked 42nd in the latest world rankings. Indonesia are not far behind at 49th position.
Coming to the group stages, India started off with a 3-0 victory against New Zealand, before downing Kazakhstan by a similar margin.
In the third encounter, they lost the first set against Chinese Taipei, before going on to clinch the next three. They then concluded the pool stage again without dropping a set against Bahrain and Australia.
In contrast, Indonesia have been heavily challenged enroute to the knockouts.
After being hammered 0-3 in their first game against South Korea, they secured wins in their next three matches, but not without dropping a set in all of them. In fact, two of them (against Qatar and Thailand) went into the deciding set too.
Considering their red-hot form, India will be favourites in front of the home crowd in Amdavad. However, they wouldn’t want to be complacent, in what is a brilliant chance to give an impetus to a sport which is still finding its footing in the nation.

The semi-final clash will be played at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Amdavad on June 27 (Saturday). It is scheduled to begin at 7 pm local time.
