The Men in Blue have an action-packed schedule ahead
The Indian men’s volleyball team’s campaign in the AVC Men’s Asian Championship 2026 came to an end on Friday as the Men in Blue suffered a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) loss to hosts Japan in the quarter-final clash in Fukuoka.
India, ranked 49th in the FIVB rankings, made it to the quarter-finals as one of the two best third-placed sides in the tournament, having beaten New Zealand in their final Pool B match. However, the task against Japan – the highest-ranked Asian side – proved too much for the Men in Blue.
Skipper Charles Jerome Vinith led from the front for India, scoring 11 points. Outside hitter Chirag Yadav scored six points. However, the visitors were completely outplayed by Japan, who reached the semi-final for a seventh consecutive edition and are aiming to lift their 11th title.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the AVC Men’s Asian Championship 2026 semi-finals, the Indian men’s volleyball team will need to regroup quickly. The Dragan Mihailovic-led side will be in action in the Asian Games 2026, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
The Indian men’s volleyball team secured qualification for the 20th Asian Games based on their FIVB rankings. 12 players will be part of the men’s team, led by Charles. The Men in Blue have been drawn in Pool C along with Qatar (42), Vietnam (60), and Hong Kong (129).
All the matches will be held at Park Arena Komaki in Japan.
