India will take on Japan in the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship 2026 quarter-finals in Fukuoka, Japan, on Friday, September 11. The Men in Blue secured a place in the last eight with a final-day win over New Zealand, but will have their work cut out against the hosts.
After back-to-back defeats against China and Iran, India opened their account in the competition with a 3-0 shutout win against New Zealand, with Chirag Yadav and Jerome Vinith Charles starring. As a result, the Men in Blue qualified for the quarter-finals as one of the two best third-placed sides.
Japan, however, remain firm favourites for the upcoming clash. Ryujin Nippon won all their group-stage matches, qualifying as Pool A leaders. They have beaten India in their last five meetings, conceding just once during that period.

India, however, are chasing their best-ever finish in the tournament, after their fourth-place finish in 2005. The visitors will need to be at their very best to get a positive result against the world No. 6 Japan.
