The AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship 2026 is set to commence on Friday in Kitakyushu, Japan. A total of twelve teams have been divided into three pools. India is in pool B, alongside Iran, China and New Zealand.
Pool A consists of hosts Japan, Australia, Bahrain and Oman, while Qatar, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand make up pool C. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed sides, would make it to the quarter-finals.
The tournament is of utmost prestige, with the winner earning an automatic berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Apart from that, the top three teams would be granted spots at the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup 2027. It also precedes the Asian Games, set to be held later this month in the same country.
After their recent impressive performances at the AVC Men’s Cup 2026 held in Amdavad, India would be looking to put on a strong showing here too, considering that a positive result will take the popularity of the sport in the nation upwards by leaps and bounds.

The road will be tough for the world No. 46 side, as Iran (No. 19) and China (No. 37) are both ranked higher in the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Rankings. Nevertheless, one can be assured that the Dragan Mihailovic-coached side will be up for the task.
