Vinesh Phogat also said that she is ready to answer all the questions of Sourav Ganguly if he joins their protests as an athlete.
The 15th day of the ongoing wrestlers' protest saw several unions and councils meet and give the government a 15-day ultimate. The wrestlers also had something to say to the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
Let's see what all transpired on the day:
Candlelight march against WFI president
Tokyo Olympics medalist Bajrang Punia requested those who couldn't join the protestors in Delhi to go out on the streets for a candlelight march on 7th March, 7 pm. He and the rest of the protestors also joined the candlelight march.
As for the maha panchayat held on the day, the wrestlers and the committees decided to give the government and the Delhi police an ultimatum of 15 days. Vinesh Phogat said that if Brij Bhushan Singh isn't brought to justice within the timeframe, a significant decision will be taken.
"We can take a big call if a resolution does not come by May 21. No one has hijacked our protest, it's just that people have joined us in our fight against injustice. These people respect us and care for our dignity," she said to PTI.
Farmers' organisations assure wrestlers
Bhartiya Kisan Union's spokesperson Rakesh Tikait communicated the decisions taken during the maha panchayat. He said that members from every khap (group) will attend the protests every day.
"Many leaders from Khap panchayat and SKM attended the meeting today. We decided that members from every khap will come to the protest site every day. They will stay here during the day and return by the evening." Tikait said before a huge gathering.
"The wrestlers' committee will take care of the protest and we will support the wrestlers from outside. We have scheduled a meeting for May 21. If the government does not offer a resolution, we will devise our next strategy," he added. "If any emergency arises, if the wrestlers face any problem, the entire nation stands behind them."
Please don't test our patience, Sanyukt Kisan Morcha requests
Sanyukt Kisan Morcha's Baldev Singh Sirsa said that the protests won't stop until the arrest of the BJP MLA Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He also requested the government not to test the patience of the farmers again.
Sirsa said, "We have also decided that we will force the government to arrest Brij Bhushan. The way farmers had fought their battle (against farm laws), the wrestlers will continue their struggle in the same way."
"I request that the government does not test our patience. They had tested us some time back and we had cleared the exam," Sirsa said, referring to the farmers' victory in getting the farm laws repealed.
"All the women can connect to this battle of ours. The supporters have given us strength. We are ready to fight."
Vinesh Phogat ready to explain situation to Sourav Ganguly
Vinesh Phogat has requested Sourav Ganguly to join the protests as an athlete and ensured that she is ready to answer all his questions if he wants to know more about the situation. The statement comes in response to the former BCCI president refusing to comment on the situation given his lack of knowledge on the same.
She said, "If he wants to support us in our pursuit of justice, he can come to Jantar Mantar as an athlete and understand everything from us."
