Olympian Vinesh Phogat will be absent due to an injury.
Wrestling has been the most medal-yielding sport after athletics for India in the history of the Asian Games. Indian wrestlers have dominated the sport over the years featuring in the headlines during every edition of the continental event. While the wrestlers were in the headlines for some unforeseen reasons earlier this year, the Asian Games presents the best opportunity to bring back some news for the right reasons.
Indian wrestlers will be competing in the 18 medal events across three categories - six Greco-Roman, six men's freestyle, and six women's.
The reigning Asian Games champion Bajrang Punia will look to repeat his feat of successfully defending his title as he did in the Commonwealth Games in 2022. World Championship medalist Deepak Punia in the men's 86 kg and Asian Champion Aman Sherawat in the men's 57 kg category are favourites to climb the podium.
India will be without the services of the 2018 gold medalist Vinesh Phogat due to an injury. Olympian Sonam Malik in the 62 kg category is a medal prospect for India in the women's event. Pooja Gehlot and Antim Panghal will look to make a mark in the Hangzhou event.
