Asian Games 2026: Aman Sehrawat clinches gold in men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling

India’s Aman Sehrawat clinched a historic gold medal in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, October 3.
The 23-year-old wrestler from Birohar, Haryana, defeated reigning world champion Han Chong Song of North Korea 11-7 in the gold medal bout at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Complex.

This marked a historic result for Sehrawat, who added to his Asiad medal tally. He had earlier won a bronze in Hangzhou 2022 in the same event. His gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games gave India its first-ever Asian Games gold in the men’s freestyle 57kg event.
It was also the second freestyle wrestling gold won by India at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, following Sujeet Kalkal’s title win in the men’s 65kg event on Friday.

The gold medal bout was a tightly contested affair from the start. After getting a passivity warning, Aman got the first breakthrough to take a 2-0 lead. He then capitalised on an injury-related delay to take a 6-1 lead in the bout.
Han then fought back after suffering another injury break, cutting down the five-point deficit to 7-6. Aman, however, fought back from behind to take an 11-7 lead with four points on the trot, sealing his maiden Asiad gold.
