India has secured six quotas for Paris Olympics.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has decided not to conduct trials for the selection of the Paris-going wrestling contingent for the upcoming Olympics.

As per the Tribune, earlier the likes of Aman Sehrawat, Anshu Malik, and Nisha Dahiya wrote to WFI expressing their concern about the risk of sustaining injuries in the trials a couple of months before the sporting mega fest. They urged the Wrestling Federation of India to avoid holding any trials.

WFI earlier decided to conduct the trials despite requests and injury concerns raised by Indian wrestlers. Regarding the same issue, Vinesh Phogat earlier also took to social media and requested the sports ministry and the national federation to announce the dates, format, and venue for the trials.

However, an official announcement has been made by Chief Sanjay Singh. The WFI Chief said on Tuesday, ā€œAthletes who secured quotas in specific categories will represent India in those same categories at the Olympics.ā€

A total of six grapplers earned the Olympic quota. Aman Sehrawat (57kg) will be India’s only male representative in the Paris Games, as all other male grapplers, in freestyle or Greco-Roman, failed to secure a quote.
