All three Greco-Roman grapplers from the country lost their respective bouts at the competition on Saturday.

The Indian wrestling contingent had yet another off day at the ongoing World Wrestling championships on Friday. Two of the Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers, Neeraj Dahiya and Sunil Kumar lost in the qualification round. Gaurav Duhoon kept the hopes alive for a while before losing in the pre-quarterfinals. The Indian wrestling male contingent is yet to open their account at the championship.

The World Championship look out of hands when it comes to Indian male wrestlers. Facing Ibrahim Labazanov of Russia in the 63kg category, Neeraj was completely dominated by his opponent and was not able to concede a single point in the entire match. Eventually, the Russian won the bout 8-0 via technical superiority.

Later, Sunil Kumar offered a tough fight to Kristoffer Berg of Sweden in the 87kg category. The Indian was completely outplayed in the first phase of the bout where his opponent conceded 7 points. However, Sunil tried to make a comeback in the later phase by claiming 3 points. However, his efforts were not enough to win the match which he eventually lost 3-7 in the qualification round.

Gaurav Duhoon fails after bright start

Up against Andreas Vetsch of Switzerland in the 67kg category, Gaurav Duhoon started strong in the qualification round. He picked up crucial 3 points in the first phase of the bout. Moreover, another point in the latter phase of the bout helped him to eventually win the match 4-0 and proceed into the next round of the World Wrestling Championships.

However, the tables turned upside down for Gaurav in the pre-quarterfinals. He was unable to concede a single point against Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan. Hasrat eventually won the match 8-0 via technical superiority and finished the journey for the Indian wrestler.

The Indian contingent has won two medals at the World Wrestling Championship so far, all credits to Anshu Malik and Savita Mor. While Anshu scripted history by winning India's first silver medal at the Championship, Savita ended her journey with a bronze medal. However, the Indian male contingent has performed below par so far without any such notable victories.
