WWE's Edge retirement plans: Revealed
'The Rated R Superstar' made his return at the 2020 Royal Rumble after 9 years
WWE Hall of Famer Edge is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He holds the second most number of championships in the history of WWE with a total of 31 championship victories. He is the 14th Triple Crown Champion and the 7th Grand Slam Champion. Edge retired in 2011 after multiple neck injuries and eventually got inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012.
However, he managed to clear his medical conditions and made his WWE return at the 2020 Royal Rumble after 9 years. His second run has been remarkable so far, with some of the best matches, a Royal Rumble win and main eventing Wrestlemania. Currently, Edge is aged 49 and reports suggest that this could be his final run in WWE and this has been the hottest topic in recent times. Why is Edge’s retirement being the hot topic among wrestling right now?
Edge’s Retirement Plan
“The Rated R Superstar” Edge was recently invited by Logan Paul for a chat in his Podcast “IMPAULSIVE”. Edge joined Logan Paul and Mike Majlak on the 375th episode of the podcast, where he opened up about his retirement plans for the first time. He said that his retirement is not so long, and neither is the time. He also said that he might have another year in him at this level and on an elite level.
Following this, Edge posted a video on twitter, a day before Friday Night SmackDown, where he was said to compete in the #1 Contenders tournament to crown the New World Heavyweight Championship.
Edge said that the New World Championship looks similar to the ‘Big Gold’ which he never lost upon retiring 12 years ago. He reported that he has an eye on the new title and he wishes to capture the championship before his career comes to an end. He also said, Once his championship reign ends, he will no longer be wrestling. However, the following night on SmackDown Edge lost the #1 contender’s match.
Dutch Mantel reported that WWE has an entire year to book him a match for the World Championship. Even if AJ Styles or Seth Rollins wins the Championship, Edge will still chase the championship and fulfil his wish. He also stated that Edge deserves a memorable send-off and WWE is currently planning for a delayed retirement, similar to the case of Cody Rhodes’ story on how WWE creative has delayed his championship victory.
