Backstage update on Dakota Kai’s WWE status

Dakota Kai has been in WWE since 2016 and had a lengthy NXT run. Her career took a whole new level when she made his main roster debut by aligning herself with Bayley and IYO SKY to form “Damage CTRL”. The trio dominated the main roster, where Kai & Sky became the two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Unfortunately, their successful second run came to a halt after Kai suffered a Torn ACL.
Kai was away from television for the last three months and appeared for the first time at SummerSlam to celebrate IYO’s first WWE Women’s Championship victory. Kai then kept appearing with Bayley and IYO, but haven’t returned to in-ring action. At this stage a backstage report on Kai’s WWE status has been released.
Dakota Kai’s WWE Status
PWInsider Elite reported that Dakota Kai has not yet cleared from injury to return for the in-ring action. She suffered a torn ACL while wrestling on the May 17th episode of SmackDown, where Kai & Bayley challenged for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in a losing cause against Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan. Kai underwent surgery the following week and got sidelined from the television. At this stage Kai returned to television at SummerSlam to celebrate IYO’s championship victory and also participated in the post-show media scrum.
PWInsider continued that WWE hadn’t originally planned to bring Kai back to television after SummerSlam. However, the plans have now changed as Dakota is said to travel along with Bayley and IYO SKY throughout the SmackDown TV tapings. However her in-ring return might take a while unless she is fully cleared to compete.
Kai also suffer a major personal loss
As Kai has been slowly preparing to clear herself for the in-ring action, her grandmother passed away recently. Kai took social media to express her sorrow. She shared a pic with her grandma and wrote on Instagram, “Will love you and miss you always, Nana.” Where a number of co-wrestlers including Natalya, Zelina Vega and others expressed their condolences in the comments.
