Champion vs Champion Dark Match announced for WWE SmackDown
WWE usually book dark matches to fulfill the home crowd and to provide a preview of ongoing or possible upcoming feuds. This week WWE has booked a high profile dark match for SmackDown, which is one of the dream matches on the Raw brand.
Champion vs Champion
For the upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown (September 29, 2023), the dark match is booked for two history-making champions of the Raw roster. The inaugural World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will take on the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion Gunther in a singles match at Sacramento, California.
Last time when both had a singles match was in November 2019, where Seth Rollins won the match by Disqualification after the attack of other members of Imperium.
Seth Rollins vs Gunther is one of a high profile match, which is a dream match for many at the career peak they are currently in. Many speculated that the match between the two will be headlining WrestleMania sooner or later. At this stage a dark match between the two builds the hope among the WWE Universe that we could see an upcoming rivalry between Seth Rollins and Gunther any time soon.
Their current feuds
Seth Rollins is currently feuding with Shinsuke Nakamura, who he faces at Fastlane by defending the World Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing Match.
On the other hand Gunther is currently feuding with Tommaso Ciampa, who he is said to face at Fastlane by defending his Intercontinental Championship.
Although the feud between the two is not built yet, this might be a warm up match for them to successfully defend their titles at Fastlane.
