John Cena, Cody Rhodes to appear on WWE NXT to counter Edge’s AEW debut match
WWE NXT has been competing with AEW Dynamite since 2019. At early stages NXT got defeated by AEW in ratings and viewerships, which made WWE move NXT from Thursdays to Wednesdays. However a big threat for the yellow anf black brand is ahead next week. So WWE has booked some of the great main roster superstars to NXT next week.
On the latest (October 3, 2023) episode of NXT, a number of huge main roster star's appearances were announced for next week on the October 10 episode.
John Cena
Carmello Hayes was in the parking lot and had a promo stating that he had a phone call with the "GOAT" John Cena and he gave him some exceptional advice, which made him feel renewed. He also reported that Cena would be in NXT next week for the very first time and would be in his corner, during his match against Bron Breakker.
Cody Rhodes
After Cena's appearance got confirmed, it was announced that Cody Rhodes would appear on the show from the Performance Center and would have a major announcement in the middle of the ring.
Asuka
Asuka was announced for a match against Roxanne Perez next week on NXT.
Paul Heyman
After Dominik regained his NXT North American Championship title from Trick Williams, Paul Heyman appeared backstage and cut a promo. He said it would be ridiculous for Carmelo Hayes to have Bron Breakker on his corner and announced that he would be on Bron Breakker's corner next week with the blessings of Roman Reigns.
Others
Becky Lynch is already the NXT Women's Champion and she would show up for sure. As Dominik won the NXT North American Champion again, The Judgment Day could also appear for the show.
Reason behind Big Bookings
It is speculated that NXT booked multiple top stars from the main roster to counter AEW's 'Title Tuesday' as Adam Copeland (Edge) is having his debut match at AEW against LuchaSaurus. As AEW Dynamite 'Title Tuesday' is aired at the same time as NXT, booking major stars could help NXT pickup the viewership and television ratings against the rival.
