Major update on Rey Mysterio's surgery and recovery: WWE
“The Ultimate Luchador” Rey Mysterio had defended his WWE United States Championship against Logan Paul in a singles match, where Logan Paul won the match by knocking Mysterio with a brass knuckle, when the referee was distracted. The controversial end to the match led to internal tensions within LWO last friday.
Carlito claimed that Santos Escobar was the one who left Brass Knuckles for Logan Paul to knock Rey out. Escobar showed his revenge on Carlito by not lending his helping hands while Carlito being assaulted by Bobby Lashley and Street Profits. Rey Mysterio, who disliked Escobar’s action, asked him why and pushed him, which led to Escobar attacking Rey Mysterio. Escobar hit Rey Mysterio on the ring post and crushed his leg between the steel stair and post.
Rey Mysterio’s medical update
Following the attack Rey Mysterio posted a picture on Instagram with a caption stating that he underwent a successful knee surgery in Alabama by thanking the medical team. Rey also said that his payback on Santos Escobar is on the horizon and he will pay for the damage done.
Rey on Instagram wrote,
“Knee surgery was successful with @dugasmd1 @andrews_sports_medicine 🙏🏼🫶🏼
Now payback on @escobarwwe is on the horizon! Pagarás por el daño hecho #Santos @escobarwwe”
Santos Escobar replied
As Rey warned Escobar, he sent a cryptic message to Rey Mysterio on X, stating “Don’t come back”.
Report on the injury and recovery time
However Haus of Wrestling reported that Mysterio has been dealing with a torn meniscus for almost three months and the injury worsened slowly over the time, and that’s the reason why Rey agreed to lose his United States Championship to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel. The report also suggests that Rey could take six to eight weeks to recover from the surgery. Post-return he would likely continue his feud with Santos Escobar.
