Two weeks ago, SmackDown General Manager announced a Triple Threat #1 Contender’s Match between Street Profits, Pretty Deadly and Brawling Brutes for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship. Where the Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins of Street Profits became the #1 Contenders for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

On the latest episode of Raw, the Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced the #1 Contenders Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in which Tegan Nox and Natalya became the #1 contender.

Following Pearce’ announcement, wrestlers of the tag team division went on arguing with each other and asked Adam Pearce to give justice to them, by giving them the championship title opportunity. Pearce granted their wish and announced a Tag Team Turmoil Match next week to determine the #1 Contenders for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

Unified no more- Tag Team Championship split

In May 2022, the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championship got unified by the Usos into the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. Since then they are defended as one across both the brands, but primarily in SmackDown, when Usos held the title. However when Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens took the title from them and got drafted to Raw, the titles were announced to be defended on both the brands, but there isn’t much championship defense in the SmackDown roster.

WWE Draft and its impact

After the 2023 WWE Draft, WWE slowly turned the brand name and signs down from the primary championship by changing the Raw Women’s Championship into WWE Women’s Championship, SmackDown Women’s Championship into Women’s World Championship. Universal Championship and United States Championship made exclusive for SmackDown and World Heavyweight Championship and Intercontinental Championship made exclusive for Raw. However the tag titles always remained the same, indicating the brand color and name.

Strict Brand Restrictions

After Triple H made Nick Aldis the SmackDown General Manager, there were various restrictions on the brand, where wrestlers from Raw are prohibited to appear on SmackDown and are fined and escorted for the breach of rules. However, SmackDown’s own tag title is in the Raw brand and Raw’s own tag title appears on SmackDown brand. With both the General Manager’s are announcing the #1 Contender’s for the same title, there might be a great clash between the brands and the two general managers.

Based on previous reports

It was previously reported by BWE, that the company will be splitting the tag team titles. Other sources indicated that the company will be bringing back the World Tag Team Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship and it will become brand exclusive for Raw and SmackDown respectively. As all the World Championships will be on the red brand and all the WWE Championships will be in the SmackDown brand. As per current bookings, it is almost clear that the title split will happen anywhere soon after the Survivor Series 2023 PLE.
