Who could be Gunther’s opponent at WWE WrestleMania 40?

“The Ring General” Gunther is one of the best in class wrestlers in the active WWE roster. He is the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time with a monumental reign of almost 600 days. He is a dominant champion, with an undefeated record in the singles match via pinfall or submission.

Gunther made a great impact in the company within a short period of time and elevated the Intercontinental title to a whole new level. As WrestleMania season kick started here are four of the potential wrestlers who could be Gunther’s opponent at WWE WrestleMania 40.

Brock Lesnar

Gunther vs Brock Lesnar is one of the most speculated matches in recent times and every fan’s wish to see both mighty alpha males battle inside the ring. Lesnar and Gunther had a face off and exchange of strikes at last year’s rumble match, which had a great reception. Since Brock Lesnar has been teasing retirement on various occasions in recent times, a match with The Ring General at WrestleMania 40 could be the perfect end for his career.  This clash at WrestleMania and Gunther defeating Lesnar will be a kind of “passing the torch” moment.

Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov is the one who dethroned Gunther (fka Walter) for the NXT UK Championship to end his 800+ days reign. Dragunov might do it again as he has done it before. Dragunov vs Gunther could be a sold out show at WrestleMania, which already is a five star match in NXT UK.

Big E

Big E has been in a long hiatus due to a neck injury. Since then Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods have worked as a duo. They recently became involved in a feud with Imperium where they have been brutally beaten down week after week. This could probably result in Big E coming to neutralize the odds for the ringside and take down Imperium. Big E is one of the potential opponents for Gunther, who could deliver a tough fight at WrestleMania 40.

Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker is one of the upcoming and powerful wrestlers, who has been dominating the black and yellow brand in recent years. Many veterans believe Breakker to be the future world champion and the future of the company.

Before Royal Rumble, the backstage reports revealed that instead of Brock Lesnar an NXT star will take his place. As a result, Bron Breakker entered the Royal Rumble 2024 match and dominated the match. During the match he had a face-off with Gunther and even speared him breaking in half, which received a great reception from the WWE universe. Considering that and their previous feud in NXT, Breaker could be a perfect opponent for him at WrestleMania 40.
