Traditionally, the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event (PLE) has been known for its two titular match-ups, often resulting in a relatively compact match card. Triple H’s inclination towards keeping PLEs concise and free of filler matches might suggest that the current lineup of four matches is all fans will witness on January 27. However, considering the 2023 Rumble featured five matches, there’s a possibility that WWE could surprise us with one or two additional bouts in the coming weeks.

Looking at the current state of WWE’s product, several ongoing storylines could naturally lead to matches at St Petersburg, Florida’s Tropicana Field. Let’s explore six potential matches WWE could still book for WWE Royal Rumble 2024.

6. LWO vs. Santos Escobar, Angel & Humberto

The return of Carlito on WWE TV has set the stage for a potential trios contest on SmackDown. While this could occur on a regular episode, the eventual grudge match between Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio might find a spot on the Royal Rumble card. The chemistry displayed between Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde against Angel & Humberto on SmackDown suggests a promising match that could serve as an exciting opener or a pre-show bout.

5. The Final Testament vs. The Pride

Faction warfare on Friday nights might escalate with a grudge match between Karrion Kross’s Final Testament and Bobby Lashley’s Street Profits (now known as The Pride). Despite a tepid crowd response initially, Kross’s faction has potential, and a clash with Lashley and The Pride could be a solid addition to the Rumble card, especially if it comes with a no-DQ stipulation.

4. Katana Chance & Kayden Carter vs. The Kabuki Warriors – Women’s Tag Team Championships

While it might be early, a clash between the newly crowned Women’s Tag Team Champions, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter, and the reformed Kabuki Warriors could be on the horizon. Bayley’s comments about the entire group being draped in gold hint at future title opportunities. While a feud with Io Shirai and Bayley seems inevitable, facing Kairi Sane and Asuka for the tag titles could add another layer of excitement to the Women’s Tag Team division.

3. The Judgment Day vs. #DIY – Undisputed Tag Team Championships

Despite little indication that the men’s tag team titles might be defended, the rivalry between Tommaso Ciampa and Finn Balor suggests otherwise. If #DIY secures a victory against ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh, a title match could be in the cards. Given Triple H’s favoritism towards Ciampa and Gargano, they might find themselves on the Royal Rumble card, providing a refreshing interlude between the event’s more critical contests.

2 Gunther vs. Jey Uso – Intercontinental Championship

Jey Uso have already expressed his desire for singles championship gold in 2024. So, he could set his sights on Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship. With Gunther’s dominant reign, a title switch at Royal Rumble would make sense, especially if WWE plans a shocker with Gunther winning the Rumble itself. Alternatively, this could serve as a strategic setup for a program with Jey’s brother Jimmy leading into WrestleMania 40, adding an exciting layer to the Rumble card.

1. Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal – World Heavyweight Championship

In an unforeseen turn of events, Jinder Mahal has become a significant figure in the wrestling world. After a prolonged absence from TV, Mahal found himself in a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins on a recent episode of Raw (January 15). Although Rollins emerged victorious, an injury during the match now could provide an opportunity for a rematch at Royal Rumble 2024, allowing WWE to capitalize on this unexpected storyline.
