WWE SmackDown New Year’s Revolution Results, Highlights & Winners (January 05, 2024): Fatal 4-Way match announced for the Universal title
Kevin Owens wins tournament, Karrion Kross & AOP returns, AJ Styles vs LA Knight vs Randy Orton ended in no contest, Fatal 4-Way Match announced and more!
The January 05, 2024 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown is the SmackDown New Year’s Revolution special edition. This week’s SmackDown was filled with pay-per-view worthy matches and everything was focused on the upcoming Royal Rumble PLE. A lot of matches were booked for Royal Rumble including a return of the former tag team champions and much more. Get to know what happened on this week’s special edition of SmackDown, as we came out with the complete SmackDown summary, highlights and results.
SmackDown Summary & Highlights
United States Title Tournament Final- Kevin Owens vs Santos Escobar
The United States Champion Logan Paul has arrived to SmackDown to witness who is his first challenger at Royal Rumble.
Kevin Owens vs Santos Escobar kicked off WWE SmackDown New Year’s Revolution. As soon as the match began, Humberto Carillo and Angel Garza are taken over by Escobar’s former partners and LWO members Joaquin Wilde and Cruze Del Toro. Escobar was distracted right away, Owens uses the opportunity. He superkicks Escobar, delivered cannon ball and frog splash and went for pinfall, but no as Escobar kicks out.
Owens hit a standing senton and climbs the top rope. Escobar stops him and drag outside the ring. Escobar swings Owens broken hand to the ring post and target the hand. Both enter the ring and Escobar locks his hands and kicks it over and over.
Escobar took Owens out and hit him with a suicide dive. He continues to stomp Owens’ hand and Owens fights back with his left hand. Both enter the ring and Owens slowly gaining the advantage. Escobar gies for the top rope, Owens counters and delivered a DDT. Owens then went to the top rope, Escobar try to stop him, but Owens delivered a Block buster of the top rope.
After the commercial, Owens took Escobar out of the ring with a superkick and delivered a swantom bomb from the apron. Escobar was thrown in and looks for another Swantom bomb, but Escobar has his knees up. Escobar hit him with a running knee strike and throws Owens down. Escobar hit a splash, but not enough.
Owens was taken to the top rope and Escobar hit him with a kick to the face. Owens caught him and delivered a rolling senton from the top rope. Owens looks for a stunner, but Escobar rolls him. Owens hit him with a super-kick, pop-up powerbomb and stunner for the win.
Winner: Kevin Owens Ratings: 4/5
Logan Paul
Logan Paul booed Kevin Owens and says that he is the greatest US Champion. And says that Canadian can’t have the United States Championship. He slowly enters the ring and got hit with the KO punch from Kevin Owens.
Logan Paul was with the ice pack on his face after the KO punch from Owens. Cathy Kelly asks him how does he feel after he came to know his opponent for Royal Rumble. Theory and Waller checks him. Grime makes fun of him, as Waller and Theory pushed him.
Karrion Kross & AOP attacked Bobby Lashley & Street Profits
Bobby Lashley & Street Profits makes their New Year’s Resolution on SmackDown New Year’s Revolution. Street Profits looks to bring the Tag Team Championship back on their waist. Bobby Lashley declares himself into the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match.
Lights went out and clock stared ticking. Karrion Kross with Paul Ellering were on the entrance ramp. Akam and Razer attacked Lashley & Street Profits from the back. Akam & Razer delivered a powerbomb on Ford & Dawkins. Karrion Kross delivered his new finisher on Lashley to make the statement. This is the WWE SmackDown return of Author’s of Pain.
WWE Women’s Championship match- IYO SKY (C) vs Michin
The match began and both show great athleticism, countering each other’s offence and trying to roll out for the win. SKY stops Michin with a stomp to the mid section. She pushed Michin to the ropes and she lays between the ropes. SKY tries to dive on her but landed outside. Michin hit her with a suicide dive before the commercial.
After the break, Michin fires a number of strikes on the champ, botched a powerbomb, hit a big boot and powerslam. Michin made SKY sit on the second rope and delivered a code breakter, but not enough for the win. Michin looks for a DDT on the apron, but SKY delivered a German Suplex over it. SKY hit a springboard drop kick and looks for a moonsault, but Michin has her knees up.
Michin delivered a Dragon Suplex but not enough. Michin climbs the top rope, SKY tries to stop her and deliver a Hurricanrana, but Michin caught her and delivered a Styles Splash from the middle rope. The pinfall is so close as IYO grabs the rope.
Michin dives out but SKY escapes. IYO hit a meteora and moonsault on Michin for the wi to retain the WWE Women’s Championship.
Winner: IYO SKY (C) Ratings: 3.8/5
Paul Heyman addressed The Rock’s return
Paul Heyman addresses The Rock’s return and statement. Heyman says that The Rock looks for a shortcut to be viral. There are only two ways to go viral, one by messing with Taylor Swift and the other by mentioning Roman Reigns. Heyman said that The Rock is just like the other opponents who challenge Roman Reigns and go unknown then.
He says that everyone wants Roman Reigns, CM Punk previously claimed that he is the OG Paul Heyman Guy, indeed he is but Heyman is upgraded from Best Friend to Advocate to Wise man. He welcomes both back but warns them to stay away from crossing path with The Tribal Chief.
Backstage- Damage CTRL
Damage CTRL celebrates IYO SKY’s victory and shows why they are the dominant faction in the SmackDown brand. Bayley says that Kabuki Warriors need to win the Tag Team Championship next and Bayley need to win the Royal Rumble and take the title away from Rhea Ripley.
Bianca Belair interrupts them and declares herself into the Women’s Royal Rumble and claims that she is the one who is going to win the rumble for the second time. She challenged Bayley for a match next week on SmackDown.
Pretty Deadly vs Butch & Tyler Bate
Butch brought Tyler Bate to SmackDown to take on Pretty Deadly. Tyler Bate and Kitt Wilson started the match and Bate tricks Wilson with innovative offense. Elton Prince and Butch gets tagged in. Butch sent Prince outside the ring, and extends Wilson’s fingers. Butch delivered a moonsault and Bate delivered a top rope dive on Pretty deadly before the commercial.
During the commercial, Pretty Deadly took Butch down and Prince takes control of him. Butch delivered an innovative suplex and tags Bate in. Bate takes both Wilson and Prince single handedly and takes Wilson for a big spin.
Bate and Butch delivered a suplex and clothesline combo, but Prince breaks it. Pretty Deadly looks to take control of Butch, but Butch caught Wilson, Bate punches Prince out and delivered a double Tyler Driver 97 for the win.
Winner: Butch & Tyler Bate Ratings: 3.5/5
AJ Styles vs LA Knight vs Randy Orton
The match began during the commercial and all the three takes on each other. Nick Aldis is on the ring side. Knight took Styles down and Orton took Knight down. Orton tries ri blew Knigh’s face on the announcement desk, but Knight blews Orton and Styles head over it. Orton came out of nowhere and delivered a couple of back drop to LA Knight and one to Styles. Styles counters the second one and drop Orton over it.
Styles drive Knight to the steel stairs and took Orton to the ring. Styles looks for a phenomenal forearm, but Orton pulled his legs and delivered an elevated DDT. Orton looks for RKO, Knight pulls him out and pushed him through the steel steps. Styles then hit Knight with a forearm from the top rop to outside the ring before the commercial.
During the break Styles took control of the match. He isolated Knight to the ring and punishes him. Styles kicked him on the mid section and delivers a backdrop. Styles sneaks out and attacks Orton by pushing him through the barricade and through the steps. While Styles enter the ring Knight takes control and stomps him on the corner.
Orton joins the party but Knight took both of them. Knight hit a backdrop. Orton wuickly strikes back and looks for an RKO on Kinght, but Knight delivered a BFT on Orton. As Knight goes for the pinfall, Styles stopped the referee. Knight takes on Knight with rapid strikes, Pele kick, and springboard 450 splash, but not enough.
Styles punish Knight and looks for a BFT. LA Knight was thrown out and Styles took Orton. AJ Styles tries for a Phenomenal Forearm but Orton delivered an RKO on the mid-air. Orton looks for a pinfall, but Knight pulled referee out.
As the ref is down, Roman Reigns with Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso atracked all the three. Roman took Styles with a powerbomb, Knight with a Superman punch and a spear. Delivered Samoan Spike and Spear Combo on Randy Orton.

Fatal 4-Way match announced
As The Bloodline took everyone out, the SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis told Paul Heyman that it is now a Fatal Four Way Match at Royal Rumble and SmackDown went off from air.

- Kevin Owens defeated Santos Escobar to face Logan Paul for the United States Championship at Royal Rumble 2024.
