Sting reveals why potential match with The Undertaker never happened in WWE
The Undertaker and Sting are two of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, who share a lot of similarities. Both have a great legacy in the pro-wrestling industry, lasting for over three decades. Sting had a great tenure in WCW and TNA, where Taker had a monumental tenure in WWE.
There has always been a rumour and talks around the wrestling industry about a potential match between them. However it didn’t happen although they were on the same promotion during 2015 and 2016. Sting had now opened up on why the match with Taker never happened.
Sting on why the match with The Undertaker never happened
“The Icon” Sting recently appeared for an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, where Sting was asked about why he hasn’t faced The Undertaker. To which, The Icon said that he had a lot of cinematic plans for the match, but they were like smoke and mirrors. Sting believes that if the match was done right, it would have been remembered forever.
Sting said,
“I think if it was done right, it could have been a night, for sure, everyone would remember and never forget. They would be talking about it to this day. But it just was not going to happen.”
“I thought, ‘Well, maybe if I get my foot in the door, we’ll see what happens.’ So I got my foot in the door. We did a WrestleMania with Triple H and then Vince [Vince McMahon] called and said, ‘Hey, I want you to have a world title match with Seth. Would you be willing to do that?’ ‘Yeah, I’d be willing to do that.’ Still, in hopes that somehow I could get in there with Taker.”
”I had so many ideas over the years. A lot of times, smoke and mirrors aren’t good things. But in our situation, I think with his gimmick and the mystiques of his character and mine, we couldn’t have enough smoke and mirrors.”
“I think it definitely would have been a night that people remembered. Man, I would have loved to have seen that. If I could have had that match alone, I would have been great. I wouldn’t have had to do anything else.”
