AJ Lee last fought in the War Games match at WWE Survivor Series!
AJ Lee’s unexpected return to the ring earlier this year sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, but fans should temper expectations about seeing her compete on a weekly basis.
New details about her contract status and upcoming schedule have emerged following her strong showing at Survivor Series. Together, they paint a clearer picture of when the former Divas Champion will step back into a WWE ring.
Lee wrestled her first match in years at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, 2025, teaming with her husband, CM Punk, in a mixed tag team bout against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins.

In a moment that instantly went viral, she forced Lynch to submit, giving her team the win. Two months later, she competed inside WarGames at Survivor Series on November 29, again targeting Lynch and once again making “The Man” tap out to secure victory for the babyface squad.
These back-to-back performances fueled speculation that a full-time return was on the horizon. But according to multiple reports, that is not the case.
AJ Lee set for 2026 Royal Rumble appearance
According to WrestleVotes, Lee’s next WWE match is already locked in for 2026. During a live Q&A, it was revealed that she will be one of the entrants in the women’s Royal Rumble match, taking place at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on January 31.
“AJ Lee is in the Rumble. She’s part of the roster now, and they need 30 Superstars. So yeah, she’s in the Rumble,” WrestleVotes stated, confirming her participation.
The news marks a significant moment for Lee, who has not competed in a traditional singles or Rumble environment since leaving the company in 2015. Her presence immediately adds star power to the match and positions her as one of the most intriguing entrants heading into WWE’s first major event of 2026.
Not a full-time contract despite viral speculation
Following her return at Survivor Series, a backstage clip showing AJ Lee speaking with Triple H sparked rumors that she had signed a full-time deal. However, Sean Ross Sapp debunked that theory on Fightful’s post-RAW show. According to Sapp, Lee is not contracted full-time and is only committed to select appearances when her schedule allows.
Her current deal gives her the freedom to wrestle occasionally without the obligation of weekly programming. It’s a setup that aligns with her long-held stance on balancing wrestling with her projects outside the ring.
Is AJ Lee expected to have a major role in the Women’s Royal Rumble match?
While WWE has not revealed her placement or storyline direction, AJ Lee entering the Royal Rumble suggests she may receive a spotlight moment similar to her Survivor Series performance.
What inspired AJ Lee to return to in-ring action after nearly a decade?
Although AJ has not publicly given a detailed reason, her recent mixed tag match alongside CM Punk and the positive fan reaction indicate her return was motivated by passion and the right creative opportunity.
