AJ Styles comments on Kenny Omega's potential WWE run & suggests acquisition of wrestling company in Japan after AAA's success

Fans often speculate about Kenny Omega jumping ship to WWE.
The newly crowned AEW World Champion Kenny Omega remains a top name in the pro wrestling world. The AEW star was part of WWE during his early career, before making a name for himself in NJPW and then joining AEW not just as a talent but also as Executive Vice President.
On multiple occasions in the past decade, WWE has tried to bring Omega into the promotion, offering him a contract multiple times. Similarly, many fans have expressed a desire for Omega to step into WWE’s ring and face off against some of the top names in the promotion.
AJ Styles compares Kenny Omega’s situation to his own
On the latest edition of The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles also weighed in on the possibility of the AEW World Champion joining WWE.
Styles questioned why Omega would leave AEW, noting that the AEW World Champion is one of the company’s key figures and has invested his heart and soul into it, comparing the situation to his own loyalty to WWE.
“Why? Why would you? He’s on the board when it comes to AEW. He’s put his heart and soul. It’s like me. Like, would we ever see AJ Styles in AEW? Why? I like the company that I work for, despite what everybody else thinks.”
Following his in-ring retirement and his final match against Gunther at Royal Rumble 2026, rumors of him joining AEW or going to TNA were loud. However, he confirmed his commitment to staying with WWE in a backstage coaching and mentoring capacity.
AJ Styles wants WWE to acquire a promotion in Japan

Styles during the podcast also revealed that he wants WWE to replicate the success of its AAA acquisition in Mexico. He noted that WWE did not alter AAA’s culture or the way the promotion operated, but instead added its own influence while preserving what made it unique.
“I would love WWE to find a way to be in Japan, kind of like the way AAA is. We’re not changing what they’re doing. We’re not trying to change the culture. We’re just putting our spin on it. … It’s not them coming to WWE, but WWE has purchased a company in Japan. Now, we have Japan, we have Mexico.”
Later in the podcast, Styles stated that WWE could help restore Japanese wrestling to the level of prominence it previously enjoyed.
“I don’t want them to come to Raw or SmackDown. I want them to be a WWE whatever in Japan. That’s what we need because we build our stars and just because we have stars that are Japanese doesn’t mean there can’t be some guys in Japan. We need those guys too.
It’s endless things that we could do. I believe that with the help of WWE, we would be able to revive Japanese wrestling to where it was. I would love to see it back where it’s the Tokyo Dome. I’m talking about not like a WrestleMania over there, I’m just saying it’s the company selling out the Tokyo Dome like it did in the early ’90s. That’s what I would want to see.”
