Did AJ Styles really got injured on WWE SmackDown (October 4, 2024)

The Phenomenal One was forced to forfeit his in-ring return match due to injury!

AJ Styles is one of the best professional wrestlers in the industry, who have a great legacy on and beyond WWE. Styles during his last appearances, was on a mission to become the Undisputed WWE Champion and battled against Cody Rhodes. Both delivered some of the best sequel matches, but all of a sudden Styles disappeared from the WWE TV for a long time.

WWE addressed Styles’ long hiatus last week on SmackDown and announced that the Phenomenal One would be making his WWE return on the October 04, 2024 episode of SmackDown. Although Styles made his return with a great reception from WWE fans, it was unfortunate that he suffered a major injury upon his return.

AJ Styles injured his ankle upon return

On October 04, 2024, in the episode of Friday Night SmackDown, American singer and writer Hardy introduced the returning AJ Styles for his WWE TV return. Styles officially kicked off the show addressing his sadistic heel run in the final few appearances. However, Styles revealed that he came to rebuild his legacy and called out anyone who is not happy with his return.  

Carmelo Hayes interrupted him and said that no one was ready to welcome Styles, except him and said that he might know who he is because it is his house now. Both had discussions about LA Knight and Styles advised him to be aware of Knight, as he has a long history with him. Melo doesn’t want to hear from Quitter, which made Styles challenge Carmelo Hayes for a singles match. Although Melo declined his challenge, LA Knight informed him that if he beat Styles, he would offer him a title shot, which resulted in an impromptu match between  AJ Styles and Carmelo Hayes.

Both Styles and Melo had a tough match, countering each other’s moves. During the match, Styles tried for a Springboard Moonsault, where he landed his foot hard, causing trouble in Styles’s ankle.

During the commercial, Styles was checked by the medical staff and Michael Cole from commentary reported that he might have a bad ankle.

Although limping, Styles continued the match. However, a slam on Styles’ knee made him scream in pain. The doctor checked him again and the referee stopped the match saying Styles could no longer continue the match.

AJ Styles limped backstage and during the backstage segment, it was announced that Styles will be heading to the local medical facility. In SmackDown LowDown, Styles was leaving the arena on crutches and the walking system. It is unfortunate for Styles to be injured on his return. There is no update on how worse his injury is and how long it will take until his in-ring return. We wish Styles a speedy recovery.
