WWE Backlash didn’t see any title change
WWE Backlash 2025 proved to be a night of intense rivalries, surprise appearances, and incredible in-ring action. Held in a passionate atmosphere, the premium live event featured six title matches, each carrying major implications for the landscape of WWE’s championship scene.
By the end of the night, all champions successfully defended their titles, reaffirming their dominance while setting up new storylines heading into the summer.
The main event spotlighted John Cena, who retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against longtime rival Randy Orton in a chaotic, interference-filled brawl.
Cena leaned into his new heel persona, using every trick in the book, including a belt shot and multiple ref bumps to escape with the gold. Despite Orton’s best efforts and multiple RKOs, the legend-killer fell short in a war that reminded fans just how personal their decades-long feud has become.
In another marquee match, Jacob Fatu survived a wild four-way match against Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest, and LA Knight to retain the United States Championship.
The match featured jaw-dropping moments and the shocking debut of Jeff Cobb, who aligned with Solo Sikoa to help Fatu secure the win, setting the stage for a terrifying new faction brewing around The Bloodline.
Lyra Valkyria also stood tall after a hard-fought battle with Becky Lynch, holding onto her Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Despite Lynch resorting to underhanded tactics, including an eye poke and exposed turnbuckle, Valkyria showed resilience and managed to roll up “The Man” for a clean pinfall. Post-match, Lynch snapped, requiring officials to restrain her as Valkyria clutched her face, possibly dealing with a broken nose.
Meanwhile, Dominik Mysterio retained the Intercontinental Championship over Penta, thanks in large part to help from El Grande Americano, who headbutted the challenger with a loaded mask. The Judgment Day appears more unified than ever, celebrating on the ramp together after the controversial win.
Finally, Gunther showed why he’s still one of the most feared men in WWE by making Pat McAfee pass out in a brutal submission. While not a title match, the bout elevated Gunther’s aura and highlighted McAfee’s gutsy determination.
