WWE Summerslam will be a two-day event

WWE SummerSlam 2025 is set to make history as the biggest edition of the summer classic to date, featuring a two-night spectacle from the iconic MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

For the first time ever, SummerSlam will span across two nights, Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, mirroring the format previously reserved only for WrestleMania.

Branded as WWE SummerSlam: New Jersey, this landmark event will welcome global fans through WWE’s new partnership with Netflix in international markets, while domestically continuing to stream on Peacock.

Adding star power to the blockbuster weekend, rap icon Cardi B will serve as the official hostess of WWE SummerSlam, while comedian Tony Hinchcliffe is slated to host a special WWE Late Night comedy show following Saturday’s card.

Beyond the entertainment, all eyes are on what could be John Cena’s final WWE SummerSlam as an in-ring performer before his retirement at the end of 2025.

As of now, two major championship matches have been confirmed. The first is a WrestleMania 41 rematch, as Cody Rhodes challenges John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Rhodes earned this opportunity by winning the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, while Cena retained his title in the main event of the same show.

During the July 19 episode of SmackDown, Rhodes pressured Cena into signing the contract and then asked him to read the fine print before announcing the stipulation for their rematch.

The second match will see Jade Cargill, winner of the Queen of the Ring challenge for the WWE Women’s Championship. Her opponent will be determined at WWE Evolution, where current champion Tiffany Stratton defends the title against Trish Stratus.

After their back-to-back encounters on July 11, SmackDown and the July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Jelly Roll decided to fight back as he now teams up with Randy Orton, ‘RK Roll’, to take on Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul in a tag team match at SummerSlam.

On the July 14 fallout show of Monday Night Raw, the newly crowned Women’s World Champion Naomi came out to celebrate her title win but was interrupted by Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky. General Manager Adam Pearce then came out, announcing a triple-threat match between them for SummerSlam with the title on the line.

On the same show, Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley in a two-out-of-three falls match to become the number one contender for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. She is now set to face Becky Lynch for the title.

The two women have agreed on a stipulation of no disqualifications, no count-outs, last chance match, which means if Lynch retains, Valkyria can no longer challenge for the title for as long as she is ht IC champion.

The promotion also previewed the upcoming card, confirming that Tiffany Stratton will defend the Women’s Championship against the 2025 Queen of the Ring winner, Jade Cargill.

In the main event of the July 14 show, CM Punk defeated Bron Breakker to win the gauntlet match and become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. He is now set to face Gunther for the title at MetLife Stadium.

During the opening moments of the July 18 episode of SmackDown, WWE announced a tag team clash where The Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez will defend the Women’s Tag Team Championships against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.

Later in the show, Adam Pearce who was filling in for Nick Aldis, announces a steel cage match between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu with the United States title on the line for Summer’s biggest party.

On the July 21 episode of Monday Night Raw, after multiple attempts by GM Adam Pearce and AJ Styles, Dominik Mysterio finally agreed to be evaluated by WWE’s medical team. Following the evaluation, he would be cleared for in-ring competition.

While the medical team needed some time to complete the paperwork, Mysterio attacked Styles from behind, making it clear that he is more than ready to defend the Intercontinental title. WWE shortly re-booked the cancelled IC title match from Night of Champions between Mysterio and Styles for SummerSlam.

‘The OTC’ Roman Reigns, in a video posted to his social media handle, proposed a tag team match against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed with Jey Uso by his side. Jey quickly responded to the proposal accepting the offer.

While unveiling the official match card for nights one and two of the SummerSlam PLE, the promotion also announced the singles clash between Sami Zayn and Karrion Kross is official for the show.

During the closing moments of July 25 episode of SmackDown, GM Nick Aldis announced a Six-Pack Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the WWE Tag Team Championship where The Wyatt Sicks (Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy) will defend the title against Andrade and Rey Fenix, #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), Fraxiom (Axiom and Nathan Frazer), Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford).
