SummerSlam is considered WWE’s second-biggest event of the year

WWE SummerSlam maintains its illustrious history as a staple WWE event. On August 3, Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland will host the promotion’s third-longest-running pay-per-view, and the card is looking good.

Two contests have been recognized for quite some time: the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Women’s Championship. On May 25, Gunther and Nia Jax won the King and Queen of the Ring competitions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, earning title chances for their companies’ crowns at SummerSlam. Damian Priest, the world heavyweight champion, and WWE women’s champion Bayley are both defending their titles heading into SummerSlam season.

SummerSlam’s most anticipated bouts have yet to be officially confirmed, but they have been aggressively hyped. CM Punk and Drew McIntyre are on a collision track after Punk wounded McIntyre during an exchange at the Royal Rumble in January, costing him world championships three times. Undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes will face Solo Sikoa, while United States champion Logan Paul will face LA Knight.

WWE SummerSlam confirmed match card

  • World Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs Gunther
  • WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley (c) vs Nia Jax
  • US Championship – LA Knight vs Logan Paul
  • Undisputed WWE Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs Solo Sikoa
  • Women’s World Championship – Liv Morgan (c) vs Rhea Ripley
  • Intercontinental Championship – Sami Zayn (c) v Bron Breakker
  • Drew McIntyre v CM Punk (Special Guest Ref’ Seth Rollins)

World Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs Gunther

Gunther beat Randy Orton in the King of the Ring tournament finals, securing a world championship chance at SummerSlam. Priest has had a terrific run as world champion, but he has yet to stand on his own two feet.

Priest beat McIntyre in WrestleMania 40, Clash at the Castle, and Money in the Bank, but needed help from Punk each time. Many people expect Gunther, the record-breaking former intercontinental champion, to win the heavyweight championship at SummerSlam.

WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley (c) vs Nia Jax

Jax overcame darkhorse finalist Lyra Valkyria to become Queen of the Ring. Jax hasn’t been a major presence on SmackDown in a while, but her new alliance with Tiffany Stratton might give her an advantage over battling champion Bayley.

LA Knight vs Logan Paul

There is no way WWE would have excluded Logan Paul from a PPV event in his hometown. LA Knight with the contract has already confirmed himself as the contender for Paul’s US crown. Knight has been stalking Paul for months, breaking into his mansion to use his swimming pool, and pinning him in a Money in the Bank qualification battle. Knight appears to be on track to win his first main roster title while also elevating the U.S. championship.

Undisputed WWE Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs Solo Sikoa

Rhodes interrupted Roman Reigns’ domination at WrestleMania, but he’s not finished with The Bloodline. With the acquisition of Jacob Fatu, the Solo Sikoa-led faction saw a significant improvement. The Bloodline beat Rhodes, Orton, and Kevin Owens in a six-man tag team match at Money in the Bank, giving Sikoa a strong case to fight Rhodes for the undisputed championship at SummerSlam.

Women’s World Championship – Liv Morgan (c) vs Rhea Ripley

We knew it was only a matter of time until Rhea Ripley returned to Monday Night Raw with her eyes set on Liv Morgan and the women’s world championship she currently owns. That’s the same title Ripley was forced to give up when she hurt her shoulder and missed three months of activity.

Indeed, Ripley began this week’s program in Ohio, stating unequivocally that she wants Morgan to attend SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. Morgan, for her part, did not back down from the challenge, stating that she knew it was inevitable. Ripley swore to reclaim her championship and destroy Morgan’s career.

CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre (Special Guest Ref’ Seth Rollins)

The most anticipated SummerSlam bout is undoubtedly one without a title on the line. WWE has expertly depicted the narrative of Punk and McIntyre. The Scotsman constantly criticized Punk’s proclivity for injuries after the latter was injured in the ring with him during the Royal Rumble.

Punk responded by sabotaging McIntyre’s WrestleMania moment, Scotland homecoming, and Money in the Bank cash-in. McIntyre hospitalized Punk with a vicious attack in Chicago between Clash at the Castle and Money in the Bank, adding to their epic clash in Cleveland. With Rollins added as special guest referee, this match would be the most anticipated match at WWE SummerSlam 2024.

Intercontinental Championship – Sami Zayn (c) v Bron Breakker

Sami Zayn defeated Bron Breakker in the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, retaining his Intercontinental Championship. On July 22, WWE Raw featured a number one contender’s contest between Breakker and Ilja Dragunov. The winner would get a championship chance against Zayn at SummerSlam.

The match was thrown out and decided in Breakker’s favor. Dragunov rushed from the ring apron into Breakker but was speared in midair. Dragunov’s head slammed the ring apron on the way down, and he could not continue. Now it is time for Zayn vs Breakker II.
