The build towards NXT Great American Bash continues!
The July 01 episode of WWE NXT as usual, emanated live from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando and aired live on CW and Netflix.
Multiple top names were advertised for the show, including TNA World Champion Trick Williams, Balke Monroe, Jordynne Grace, Tony D’Angelo, and NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, among others.
In the first match of the show, former TNA World Champion Joe Hendry defeated Wes Lee in a singles match, while Myles Borne defeated Lexis King.
Furthermore, Lainey Reid defeated Thea Hail, while Tatum Paxley and Izzi Dame defeated Sol Ruca and Zaria after Zaria accidentally took out Ruca with a vicious spear.
In the main event of the show, Yoshiki Inamura defeated Jasper Troy in a number one contender’s match for the NXT title.
Inamura is now set to face Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at the Great American Bash on July 12. In the closing moments of the show, Blake Monroe aided Jordynee Grace, who was attacked by Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley, NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx).
During the show, the promotion also announced multiple matches for the next week’s show, which will serve as the go-home show for the upcoming NXT Great American Bash on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia.
NXT Tag Team Champions Hank Walker and Tank Ledger are scheduled to defend the title against the team of Shawn Spear and Niko Vance (The Culling). TNA’s Joe Hendry and Mike Santana are set to team up against The High Ryze.
Ricky Saints will attempt to secure a title match against Ethan Page by facing Evolve’s Vanity Project trio in a three-on-one gauntlet match next week.
If Saints prevails, not only will he earn a shot at the title, but he’ll also have the opportunity to choose the stipulation for their upcoming contest.
Additionally, Tavion Heights will take on Charlie Dempsey in an effort to escape the No Quarter Catch Crew. After a recent loss to Je’Von Evans, this is Heights’ second and final opportunity to break free from the group, much like Myles Borne managed to do before him.
