Andrade El Idolo is All-Elite!
Andrade El Idolo has fired back at Dave Meltzer following reports about his departure from AEW and his eventual WWE return. The former WWE United States Champion didn’t take kindly to Meltzer’s claims that AEW President Tony Khan was unaware of his intentions to leave the company in late 2023.
The report, published in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, suggested Khan believed the former US Champion was staying and even pushed him on TV through his final match at AEW Worlds End against Miro on December 30, 2023. Just weeks later, Andrade made a surprise return to WWE as a Royal Rumble entrant in January 2024, sparking renewed interest in his career path.
Andrade El Idolo Fires Back at Meltzer’s Claims
In the report, Meltzer stated: “Andrade gave Khan the belief he was staying… even though those in wrestling who knew him said he was going to WWE. He is talented in the ring, but geez, everyone is. Even five years ago, he was a very unique talent but now there are so many guys at his level.”
El Idolo didn’t take long to respond. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he blasted Meltzer for spreading misinformation without evidence.
“@davemeltzerWON You talk too much shit without proof,” Andrade wrote. “When my contract with AEW ended, I personally went man to man to thank Mr. Tony Khan for the opportunity to be in AEW, and that’s all I’ll tell you. If I wanted to talk more, I would show you that you’re wrong about many things. But you keep killing the business! Yo le deseo lo mejor!!”
His message drew wide attention among fans, with many backing his stance and criticizing Meltzer’s reporting style. The post also reaffirmed El Idolo’s respect for Khan despite leaving AEW, shutting down speculation that their relationship ended on bad terms.
Why did AEW bring Andrade back?
Meltzer’s report also highlighted AEW’s business reasoning for re-signing the former WWE star earlier this month. “A big part of bringing Andrade to AEW is wanting another Hispanic star to help build the company up in Mexico and on Fox Sports Mexico,” he wrote. The decision was viewed internally as a strategic move to expand AEW’s reach in Latin America, where Andrade remains a marquee name.
Andrade’s second AEW run began with him attacking Kenny Omega and aligning with the Don Callis Family, instantly re-establishing himself as a top heel. His swift return to in-ring competition also raised eyebrows, as he bypassed WWE’s usual 90-day non-compete clause after being released on September 13. Reports suggest WWE terminated his deal outright, allegedly citing multiple Wellness Policy violations.
However, some fans believe the explanation was merely a cover for creative disinterest, noting that he had recently been teaming with Rey Fenix before being quietly written off television following SummerSlam. He’s now back wrestling full-time with AEW and even set to appear at House of Glory next month, continuing to rebuild his momentum outside WWE.
Why did Andrade fire back at Dave Meltzer?
Andrade accused Meltzer of spreading false information about his AEW exit, saying he personally thanked Tony Khan before leaving the company.
Why did WWE release Andrade in 2025?
Reports cite multiple Wellness Policy violations, though fans speculate creative frustration and backstage politics also played a role.
What’s next for Andrade in AEW?
He’s currently aligned with the Don Callis Family and is expected to compete in high-profile matches as AEW expands its reach in Mexico.
