The Empress had some remarkable WWE matches during her tenure.
‘The Empress’ Asuka has been credited with being one of the most athletic and enthralling WWE superstars on the main roster.
With over a decade in the Stamford-based promotion, The Empress of Tomorrow seemingly bid goodbye to the WWE Universe on the RAW after Backlash 2026 PLE, with multiple reports surrounding her uncertain future.
With Asuka seemingly gone for an extended while or possibly retired, here is a look back at her best matches ranked in WWE:
5. Ember Moon- NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 3
One of the best matches during Asuka’s tenure in NXT was against Ember Moon. The duo feuded for a while before meeting for their final in-ring encounter for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT: TakeOver Brooklyn 3. They tore down the house with a captivating bout that saw Asuka retain her title in the end.

4. Bayley-NXT TakeOver: Dallas
Just months after her NXT debut, Asuka got her first crack at the NXT Women’s Championship against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Dallas in 2016. The Empress of Tomorrow proved her dominance over her and made her pass out via submission to claim her first title in WWE in a highly spectacular bout.
3. Becky Lynch- WWE Royal Rumble 2019
The opening match of the WWE Royal Rumble 2019 event saw Becky Lynch defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka. The two top stars had an evenly matched showdown, and Asuka managed to beat The Man to win the title at the peak of her rise as a megastar.
2. IYO Sky- WWE Backlash 2026
The final in-ring encounter for Asuka to date saw her square off with her fellow Japanese star, IYO Sky, at WWE Backlash 2026. Both high-flying and skilled competitors delivered perhaps the best match of the night, which saw IYO defeat Asuka. They shared a moment of respect post-match, where The Empress hinted at her retirement.
1. Charlotte Flair- WrestleMania 34
The Empress had been undefeated since her WWE debut in 2016. She continued her winning streak even after her main roster debut in 2018 and earned a Women’s title match against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34.
The Empress and The Queen battled in a hard-fought and spectacular showdown, which saw Flair snap Asuka’s winning streak and retain her title.
Has Asuka retired from WWE?
Reports suggest she is either semi-retired or has gone indefinitely due to personal reasons.
