‘The Legendary Empress’ Asuka turned on Iyo Sky, irked by her closeness towards Rhea Ripley, and feeling disrespected, she, along with Kairi Sane, attacked the two. Originally speculated for WrestleMania 42, the match was then announced for Backlash, albeit without the presence of Kairi Sane.

Asuka made her Backlash debut during the 2020 edition, where she defended the WWE Women’s title against Nia Jax. The match ended in a double count-out with The Legendary Empress retaining the title as a result.
She then competed in a triple-threat match for the Women’s title against Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair. In 2024, she, along with her Kabuki Warriors tag partner Kairi Sane, failed to retain the Women’s Tag Team titles, dropping them to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.
