“The role model” is the current WWE Women’s Champion
Bayley’s 380-day reign as WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, tied with Rhea Ripley, is the longest in the championship’s history. So, she is not an exception to the main event situations. From 2008 to 2012, she wrestled on the independent circuit under the ring name Davina Rose.
Martinez (Bayley’s original name) signed with WWE in 2012 and was assigned to the NXT brand, where she adopted the ring name Bayley (as opposed to Bailey, Martinez chose “Bayley” as she represents the Bay Area). In 2015, she won the NXT Women’s Championship, and subsequently won the 2015 NXT Year-End Awards for Female Competitor of the Year and Match of the Year for her match with Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.
Bayley held the WWE Raw Women’s Championship, the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, making her the first female Triple Crown Champion and Grand Slam winner in WWE history.
She also won the 2019 Money in the Bank ladder match and became the first woman to defend a WWE title in Saudi Arabia. In 2024, she won the Royal Rumble match, setting a new women’s record of 1 hour and 3 minutes.
Bayley WWE SummerSlam record
Bayley became the #1 contender for the championship in July 2017 after defeating Banks, and she was scheduled to face Bliss at SummerSlam on August 20, but she suffered a separated shoulder injury that prevented her from performing, and the match was cancelled.
Bayley won the Money in the Bank ladder match on May 19, allowing her to compete in the women’s title event whenever she wanted. Later that night, she cashed in her briefcase and beat Charlotte Flair to claim the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time.
This victory marked her as the first WWE Women’s Grand Slam winner in company history. Then Bayley defeated Ember Moon at WWE SummerSlam 2019 to retain her WWE Championship.
Then next year Bayley beat Asuka by Sasha Banks to retain her WWE SmackDown Woman’s Championship. She has a clean 2-0 record in WWE SummerSlam for now.
At SummerSlam 2024, Bayley is all ready to face Nia Jax defending her WWE Women’s Championship. It will be interesting to see if will she be able to conquer “The Irresistible Force” who is currently aligned with Tiffany Stratton.
